What is so special about this pipe?

I have been in a pipe shopping mood as of late. As I have been perusing the Bay, I selected this pipe as one that interested me.

It was listed starting at $13. When I found it a few days ago, it was at about 22. I didn't put a bid on it, but was watching it. Earlier today, I think it got up to the low $30's. Still not a bad price, but a little more than what I am looking for right now.

I paid no attention to it until this evening, as I was curious what it went for.
As these auctions often go, they shoot up rapidly in the final seconds, so I was expecting the $50-70 range, but HOLY COW!
    Not this!!

Estate Pipe Dan 225 F AXS 565 1920A G Holbreck Shape Reformed Estate Pipe | eBay

    $609!!

So, what is so special about this pipe to command such a price?

Neither, just an onlooker...I would think the seller is happy...

I don't know much about "brand name" pipes per se, but if you watch e-bay, some of them do fetch a pretty penny. Some sell in the thousands.

The one you were watching has very nice grain and a nice shape to it. Personally I could see paying 100-150 for it (if I were in the market, which I'm not as I have more pipes than I'll ever need). The top is pretty burnt up though.
You oughta know not to stand by the window, somebody see you up there.
