I’ve purchased four estate pipes from SmokingPipes whose condition was described as:
“4.9/5 Lightly smoked”
or
“4.9/5 Lightly smoked, but rather clean”

All four of them proved to be unsmoked. YMMV.

Edit: Dunno why SmokingPipes does this. Just being super conservative, I guess.

I think they're doing that to cover all their bases, just in case it has been smoked and it doesn't show. I won a pipe at auction on Cigarbid.com; it was a Peterson and it was listed as a new pipe. When I received it, I discovered that it had been smoked before. They replaced it with a new one. In that case, it was difficult to tell that it had been smoked.
