Smoking multiple bowls back to back
So as some of you know, my wife just bought me my first briar pipe. I finally got to try it out on Sunday, I loved it and then i finished the bowl and got to thinking "WOW! that was amazing" and wanted to pack another bowl. But then I got to thinking This thing is kind of warm. So my dumb noobie question: Is it bad to smoke multiple bowls back to back in a pipe? especially a new briar pipe?

One shouldn't put the term "multiple bowls" in a thread title when one lives in Cali - gives the wrong impression
Thought I knew the answer but turns out I don't

Back in the day a guy had one pipe and smoked the crap out of it. Ideally a pipe should rest so it can dry out but you're not going to hurt anything by smoking multiple bowls. If the flavor turns sour, you know you went a bit far and should let the pipe rest.

I'm still new to the pipe, but I have smoked multiple bowls in some of my briar's the thing I notice about it is I get tongue bite. (I can get 2 bowls with out much trouble) but much less bite if I switch pipes

Hi Jonathan,
Good question. You can smoke any pipe as many times as you like but I give my briars time off between smokes for best results. Letting a pipe cool completely is a good practice to minimize stress on the bowl, especially in a new pipe that has yet to develop any appreciable cake (bowl carbon).
I think that other guys can offer insight into cobs, meers and clays (etc.) and repeated smokes.

I was out of town last night and checkered boarded two pipes for three smokes over the course of the evening. No ill effects observed.

I wouldn't do it with my briars.
However, I definitely suggest getting a few cobbs if you don't already have them. I've taken a MM Legend and smoked 3-4 bowls one right after the other. No biggie. If it damages the pipe, I'll go to Walgreens and pay $6 for another one.

I normally smoke my pipe once or twice a day,,if I'm lighting bowl after bowl it is because I'm stressed or angry and I'm trying to start a fire. But honestly,
I will usually wait an hour or so before lighting another bowl,so it just depends on what pipe calls to me at the time.I like my briars but have developed an
appreciation for my cob.And my Meers are for when I'm just showing off...
So where I can't answer your question, if it worries you switch hit between your briar and a cob, save the "Good Stuff" for your briar.

Thanks for the advice guys. Unfortunately I only have the one briar and a Cob. So I suppose this means that I will be sleeping on the couch after I buy a few more so I can rotate.

I live like 30 minutes from Washington, MO where the MM factory is, but they don't give tours. I was so disappointed.
And buying cobs at the store there isn't any cheaper than the local B&M which surprised me.
