Smoking some Sleepy Hollow by Straus Tobacconist in Florence, Kentucky. Samples of this were given out at the party on the first night of the Nashville Pipe Show.

Pete, just realized I never did confirm or deny my blend.

White Burley and Bright VA. The "ite" is what got my mind all twisted. Excuse my ignorance, please!

Turns out both, plus Red VA, East Carolina, a bit of Stoved VA, and a touch of light-brown Burley were the components in that particular blend. I seem to remember it being a bit brighter and livelier when fresh. A few years in a jar and it became a touch muddled... Maybe the burleys, of which there really wasn't much, became more dominant. Odd, but possible, I suppose.

Right. Now, to keep this on track.

Had some MacB Plum Cake in the lovely Sasieni 4 Dot (I want more of these pipes!) while I was puttering around the garage earlier, cursing the cold and rain and wishing that I could have a hands-on woodworking hobby in a perpetual 75 degree climate. The tobacco was, plus or minus a week or so, exactly three years older than me, which means that it was tinned in June of '77. A quick check of Google shows that in that month: Bill Walton's Trailblazers won the championship over the 76ers, Elizabeth II celebrated 25 years on the throne, the Apple II was released, and, exactly three years before I was born to the day, Elvis performed his last concert. I wonder where that tin of tobacco sat for all of the years until I bought it.

Then, I moved on to some slightly younger but still old Escudo, circa 1997-98, which puts it near my Junior/Senior year of high school, in a tiny little squiggly fish-shaped Dan Huber nosewarmer pipe (which, again, I bought before he matured and started charging big money). This tin must've been been born right after AC Peterson took over. To bookend my experience, I would love to track down some Cope-made Escudo, circa 1994, which would be that company's last year of production, so that I could try some made when I was a Freshman.

On deck for a brisk walk in the dark and rain: the feared and powerful Ennerdale in an upscale cob that has performed flawlessly for years. Was gifted to me by Moo, I think, and I question his judgement as it's not every day that someone would give away a pipe that smokes this well.

The last of this eight ounce tin of 2012 Anniversary Kake in a giant size 2002 full bend black sandblasted Ardor Urano with the initials D.R. This pipe is almost the size of my first. I inherited this pipe five years when my friend Donald passed away, and this is the first time I have smoked it. So, this smoke is a tribute to my buddy who was like a brother to me.

A little baggy of a Tinderbox Aro from the late-mid 80's in an Irish Second from the same time and place. At this point, it's just a weak Cavendish. RIP

Some My Mixture 965 in my Savinelli billiard.
I realize this isn't the most sophisticated pairing, but for some reason I'm enjoying it immensely.
