I've been smoking some of the new Cornell & Diehl Red Virginia Flake. I didn't buy any tins while it was available but a friend in the Knoxville Pipe Club gave me some. At the club meeting Wednesday night, I opened a tin of Ashton's Consummate Gentleman and everyone liked it.

That's one of my favorite tobaccos. Just ordered some more from P&C this morning.

"Not so much" for free samples....

This evening I had decided to dig through my old bag of stash and came across this tiny free sample bag of "Harvest Moon" tobacco that is more than 10 years old; I decided to try it in my corncob. I don't have any memory of where I got it, but it has definitely been sitting there for more than 10 years. This tobacco was still moist after all this time. After lighting it, I found that it was a very sweet aromatic, flavorful, ran hot and was not to my liking; after smoking half a bowl I dumped it out. I am now having a bowl of SG FVF in my Savinelli 606EX and am enjoying it. I am topping off this smoke with a small glass of brandy and the train is "back on the track".

Last night I burned a bowl of Sweet Rum Twist in a gourd calabash.

This pipe is perfect for these strong blends; smallish bowl size and it really mellows the smoke.
