My bulk purchases are usually Gawith Hoggarth or Sam Gawith; usually over (or well over) $50 per pound. (However, Peter Stokkebye and Newminster both make Va flakes that are delicious with a little age on them so I'll swing to the cheaper end if it's good.)

Digressing here but the way I see it, tobacco (as well as things like beer, bacon, corned beef hash, sausage, etc) are at best, unnecessary and really aren't even good for you. Therefore if I'm going to enjoy them I'll make sure I REALLY enjoy them. (and usually in moderation if only because of the price) I don't buy lousy bacon, I don't buy mediocre tobacco, and I don't drink Budweiser...
I'm mostly with you. Except I've had McClelland blends that cost 50 a pound that I thought kind of sucked. G&H is great and I have a small stash. I just like simple. I only do 2-3 bowls a week these days so simple appeals to me. I don't smoke or keep anything I don't enjoy. Just blessed with a "simple palate", same with food.

although I don't know about that "not good for you" bit.... Lot of those centenarians swear by bacon, endless cups of black coffee, and a wee nip of the ol' bottle. and a bit of tobacco. Most of our grand parents faring better than us, dear grammy was never without a pall mall and a coffee for years, and then quit and developed extreme anxiety/paranoia, locking the doors during the day and all that =P

Oh I hear you. Just because it's $50 or $60 a pound certainly doesn't mean it's good. IMO anything with more than a passing whiff of that awful rose geranium is unsmokable. I don't care if it is G&H, in fact they're the worst offenders.

I had grandparents too, ones that smoked and ones that did not. The smokers both died in their 70's, nonsmokers: mid 90's. I remember the packs of Raleigh cigarettes they smoked with the little brown paper coupons under the cellophane. Of course they smoked like trains. I hardly think a little tobacco or for that matter, a little nip or a little of anything is going to hurt anyone. I fact, I'm thinking I'll go light up a little bowl of G&H Rum Flake in the calabash right now... and probably drink a glass of stout along with it.

Half way through March Meer Madness, so all my smokes are in my Emin Brothers Sitting Apple.
Had five nice smokes today, even with the temp in the 30's.

Puffing Dunhill Navy Rolls in my Il Duca Rhodesian. Going down good. And thinking about lunch, which will include genuine baked-in-Germany Pumpernickel. Radically different from, and much better than, any US pumpernickel that I've ever had. This stuff was the first purchase with my new Amazon Prime account -- free two-day delivery.

Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture in an old banded Dr. Grabow on my lunch break.

I've had a bad cold and this is my first bowl this week. It really hit the spot.
