Just finished the last two coins from an '04 tin of Escudo.

Now loading the last few flakes from an '01 tin of Capstan. Absolutely on my desert island, all time, ten most "must-have-at-all-times" blends. And that list is, in alphabetical order:

    1792
    Capstan
    Condor
    Dark Flake Scented
    Ennerdale
    Irish Flake
    Lancer's Slices
    Margate
    Marlin Flake
    Royal Yacht

G&H Louisiana Flake in my official flake pipe - an old Hardcastle's Old Bruyere billiard. Not expecting a heavily topped whiskey/tonquin blast, I'm really enjoying this blend. Nice light chocolate and burning leaves flavors, and just enough Lakeland essence to be interesting. It compares well with the Gawith Scottish Autumn Flake I had last night (which maybe wins by a hair). I think both of these samples came from @tmoran , so thanks, brother!

Too busy to write, but never too busy for the pipe......

For the last month or so I have had the company of three of my female cousins from back east and have been too busy to write. These girls are 19, 20 and 22 and thank god with no children as yet; they will be with me until after the new year. My girls are totally delightful and they all enjoy the smell of my pipe tobacco which goes a long way. In the evening when I am smoking my pipe they would be sitting around playing their math calculating games with no paper, pen or calculator and they would have me with pen and paper and a scientific calculator checking their results. This process was OK with me until they get into specific gravity of liquids, different size of pipes and pressures and liquid flow. I said to myself "dang-it", this is giving me a headache. I know my girls have been doing this sort of thing since they were very young, but for me this is tough even with a computer and calculator. This evening I am having a bowl of my blend of Dunhill's Nightcap with Ashtons Artisans Blend in my extra-large Rossi Freehand. I am topping off this smoke with a large ice cold mug of "Guinness Draught" brew and I am feeling relaxed.
