Sounds tasty. I was hoping you weren't going to say those white blobs were marshmallows. :puke:
Burned a cobload of G&H Cherry Cream Flake last night by the campfire
Printable View
Working from home still, sitting on the patio with a cup of coffee and a Savinelli Series III bent apple, full of McClelland 2015 Va/Perique Flake.
Burned a cobload of Ennerdale flake on the river yesterday. Well, half a cobload... the pipe is still half full. Debating on whether to fire it back up today (if I make it out there) or dump it and reload afresh.
Found a half jar of McClelland 5110 that I mixed with Latakia 3/4:1/4.
Loaded up a cob and it greatly improved cleaning up the yard!
Puffing Liberty (Dan Tobacco), in my old Kirsten. A mild Virginia with a light cherry topping. Very tasty, and a nice change up. Here’s what SmokingPipes says of it:
“With both title and tin art making clear Liberty's inspiration, this is bright and sweet Virginia blend, flavored with a strong aromatic note that has been compared to a good cherry snuff.”
I disagree with the “strong aromatic note” statement. You want “strong aromatic note”? Try Solani Tropical Mango Flake!
It's hard to find a Dan blend that's no good, aromatic or otherwise. I enjoy their Sweet Vanilla Honeydew and Bill Baileys Balkan Blend. I have a tin of Devils Holiday and also one of Velvet that I need to try some day. Both were gifts as I usually shy away from tins if favor of bulk. Velvet is supposed to be flavored with champagne and Guinness. Dan Tobacco seems to shy away from the use of black Cavendish and burley. Probably why I usually like their blends.
Burned a fresh bowl of G&H Louisiana flake on the river yesterday. I also added a small amount of Solani Green Label for improved 'boat note'. The aro didn't do the Louisiana flake any favors but it still wasn't bad.
^^^^^^^^
I’ve tried all of the Solani aros. The only one I like at all is 333, “Festival”. I don’t think that I’ll be buying any more of it though.
Currently puffing “Holmer Knudsen’s”, another good Dan Tobacco aro.
I bought this Black House a really long time ago, before I had any idea about anything piping. I just always remembered that it had black Cavendish. However reading it now its really mostly a lot of everything else, Latakia and perique based. Pretty happy its not sweet at all with the Cavendish in it as I was worried about it.

Puffing a mixture in my old Kirsten. Hamborger Veermaster (Dan Tobacco), and a lesser amount of Solani 656, Aged Burley Flake. Going down pretty well. The ABF provides body that the HV lacks.
Almost finished with a bowl of Peterson Elizabethan Mixture in a sandblasted Savinelli Bing's Favorite.
On deck is Peterson Irish Flake in a Savinelli Champagne bulldog.
Burned a few cobloads of various Gawith Hoggarth flakes on the river yesterday and the day before.
You know, I've been smoking therapeutic doses of pipe tobacco thru most of this coronavirus scare and so have a couples others I know. And guess what?!?!! Not a single pipe smoker I know has come down with covid19! Clearly, pipe tobacco is 100% effective against coronavirus / covid19. Thank you and good night.
^^^^^^^^
I’ve read several news articles saying that smokers have a significantly lower incidence of Covid-19. The articles then state that smokers that do get Covid-19 have a higher death rate. But I suspect that pipe smokers, who don’t inhale, don’t have that higher death rate. 99% of smokers these days are cigarette smokers.
Puffing Carter Hall in my Tinsky brandy. Going down pretty good — has a light topping of some sort. I can remember when Carter Hall was offered for about 35¢ per pouch at most drugstores.
Read that same article a while ago. It does make sense tho no zero sense trying to convince the anti smoking brigade. Heck they want erase any photo or movie that shows someone smoking. If cigar or pipe smoking was so deadly then how the hell are they alive, when their forebears should've been turning toes up at early ages. Or did the anti smoking fanatic have no male grandparents?
Going outside for a small bowl of a VaPer of some kind. Looking for a decent chardonnay around here...
Started a cob-mod project today. Can't wait to burn a few break-in bowls in one once they are done.

Smoking a bowl of GH Kendal Kentucky in a Albert John billiard/apple. Just walked the dogs and took a shower and feeling good after a good work week.
Puffing Patriot Flake (Dan Tobacco) in my Luciano squat bulldog. One of my favorite tobaccos. Quite mild, it’s been extensively press fermented, which gives it a distinctive flavor. Good stuff.
I like its tin art work too. A Minute Man holding his rifle. He’s alert and expecting action, but is unafraid.

Puffing Patriot Flake (Dan Tobacco) in my Ardor Rhodesian:

As said in the SmokingPipes blurb, it’s a palm-filler. At 3.2 ounces there’s a lot of briar in this baby. It’s a solid sitter too.
Burned a couple bowls of Solani Green Label in my newly built Dagner poker. Working on breaking it in.

Burned a bowl of SG Louisiana flake in the Dagner while rolling on Fribbos.
(Fribbos: holiday friday when you shouldn't be working)
Puffing Milonga (Dan Tobacco) in my Ardor Rhodesian. Dan offers several good aromatics, but this might be the best of them. Tasty flavoring and good tobacco. Unfortunately, my stock of it is getting low and, like many Dan tobaccos, it’s usually out of stock.
Have you tried Sweet Vanilla Honeydew? I'm partial to that one because it's all Virginia - no nasty burley and no boring, airy cavendish.

Couple bowls while waiting on a pork loin over pecan. Some Missouri Pride in the MM cob and some Amphora Brown in my grandfather's ol' Medico.

Enjoying a bowl of HH Old Dark Fired in my newly built Dagner Poker
Trying a tiny musketball of ODF in the Dagner again because yesterday's bowl was ok but just wasn't all that great. This time rubbed it out to mostly ribbon cut. I find this is one of those rare flakes that I much prefer rubbed out.
No that was a gift from the pipe secret santa a few years back
Gonna light this bad boy up with some Grasmere flake to go along with my gin.
Happy pipes ya bums https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1e361892a7.jpg

Burned a couple bowls of Ennerdale (in a cob of course, I wouldn't defile a briar with with this stuff) while on the river the past couple of days. Used my oldest, rattyest, ugliest, surviving MM Pride. The thing smokes every bit as well as a fine briar. I'd hate to lose the dirty old thing.
Had a bowl of Solani 660 in the Dagner poker last night

Puffing 5 yo F&T Vintage in my Ardor Rhodesian. After 20+ fills this big boy is proving to be excellent in all respects. Smokes sweetly, easy maintenance, and it’s a solid sitter to boot.

Burned a bowl of Esoterica Stonehaven in the Dagner poker tonight. Whoever told me to dry this blend thoroughly (think it was @Bruck or @Branzig ) was right. I dried it well before fold and stuff. Makes for a nice smoke. Peppery like a VaPer and with some nice dark fruit. Flavor holds right down to the bottom, unlike most aromatics. I guess this isn't really an aromatic per se although it is topped with something for sure. Anyway, glad I bought a couple bags back in 2015. It had none of that moldy newspaper taste I get with most burley blends.
Another, albeit smaller, bowl of 2015 Stonehaven. So good. Hard to believe this isn't an untopped VaPer. So spicy and good! Didn't let this batch dry as much as the last (a bit pressed for time tonight) and the flavors were subsequently a little muted but still very nice!
Smoked a bowl of War Horse Bar last night. Didn't really want a smoke but wanted to keep the mosquitoes away. I picked a non-favourite blend as there was a good chance I'd be abandoning it mid bowl.
War Horse Bar: Mini review...
I bought this because of the supposed nostalgia of an 'old blend brought back' etc etc and because of all the love on TR - hardly a bad review. It's touted as a 'strong blend with a singular top note'. Generally I like strong blends because generally strong blends don't bite... and I loathe tongue bite. Also, it's advertised as a plug. I like the plug cut and plug is rather rare. I'm a sucker for plug tobacco of any kind.
Actually, I got lots of tobacco cheap because I ordered Bar but P&C sent ready rubbed - 3 tins I think, which they replaced with Bar at no cost and let me keep the RR as well.
Well this stuff is nasty. It's like smoking a bowl of baby powder mixed with nicotine. At first light it's all baby powder all the time. By mid bowl some of the baby powder had burned off and I could taste the tobaccos... including papery (yes, papery. I didnt mean to type 'peppery') burley - which I do not particularly like. By the end, the baby powder was back with a vengeance. It's also not a plug. It's a crumble kake - my least favorite presentation: you slice off a few flakes and as you try to arrange them for stuffing they crumble into sawdust between your fingers. Crumble kakes suck. The reviewers at TR were trying to identify the 'singular' (read: evil) topping; anise, valerian root, vanilla etc... It's baby powder guys. Stop over thinking it. Baby powder: plain -n- simple. My Pipe still reeks of baby powder this morning. Hopefully it fades soon. Maybe I'll set it out in the sun for a while and see if that helps. Hope it's not ruined.
-edit-
Scrubbed the bowl and stem out good with dark rum, pipe cleaners and paper towel. Seems to have attenuated the baby powder quite a bit. There's hope yet! Have to pass a bowl of Happy Bogie thru it soon. No ghost Can stand up to Happy Bogie! :pipe:
Smoking my gorgeous new Mark Tinsky bulldog:

Mark had his heart in this one. Breaking it in with Carter Hall, which is going down quite well. It’s a pretty good tobacco.
