Puffing Gordon Pym (Dan Tobacco) in my Kirsten. This unusual English mixture is quite tasty. Also a bit fluffy — 1.7g is the most that’ll comfortably fit into my Kirsten, compared to 2.1g for most tobaccos.

Soo Blend in a cheap briar.
"Soo" is short for Sault Ste. Marie, in northeastern Michigan. It's sold by Austin's, which is a furniture/consignment/flea market/anything to make a buck in a small town store which has a humidor and reasonable selection of pipe tobaccos in back.
Soo Blend is your basic whiskey cavendish aro, nothing special. I just got it bcs of the name :)

I opened a 4 yo tin of F&T Vintage a couple of days ago — puffing that now in my Radice Rhodesian. For some reason this pipe leaves pipe cleaners significantly cleaner than any of my other conventional briars. Don’t need any pipe cleaners at all while smoking my metal-stem Kirsten.
Lunch featured King Oscar “Tiny Tots” bristling sardines on German-baked pumpernickel, with Thumann’s “Düsseldorf” mustard, raw onion, and lots of black pepper. And tomato basil soup. All good!
I received ten 100g tins of Solani 660, Silver Flake from SmokingPipes yesterday. I now have 18 unopened tins in stock, and a little bit more in a jar. I’m well provisioned! Puffing 660 now in my Tinsky billiard. Superb tobacco.
Puffing Solani 656, Aged Burley Flake in my Kirsten. I don’t smoke a lot of ABF, but sometimes I just crave it. Lots of flavor, and a radically different flavor than my Virginias.
Puffing a 50/50 mixture of two F&T tobaccos: Blackjack and Vintage. The unflavored BJ counters the strongly flavored Vintage, and the mild Vintage counters the zippy BJ. A successful experiment.
I ordered a tin of this to try; no burley (other than the DFK) and no cavendish... I might even like it.
I also ordered about the last thing I need... a pipe.
Been wanting a spigot for a while but most of them are just way too ugly IMO. And then there are the ones like Savinelli and Stanwell that only 'look like' a spigot but really are just a conventional tenon with some gaudy silver decoration. But I saw an unsmoked, Peterson estate for a reasonable price so I grabbed it. Hopefully it's a real spigot or it's going back.
I don't care for Petes really. I don't like the 'system' or the 'p-lip', the heavily lacquered finishes or the big blocky look. Plus, I've read on several sites that Petes have a tendency to smoke wet. Well this one isn't a 'system' (if it is, it wasn't mentioned in the ad) it's a fishtail and it doesn't look too blocky IMO. It looks utilitarian, which is just fine by me. Hopefully it smokes ok. If not, you might just see it up for sale.
-edit-
Well the pipe arrived and it is a real spigot. :thumb: That's pretty much what made me decide to buy it; I don't think Peterson makes fake spigots.
I have a bit of Solani 660 airing out to try in it. Expecting it to taste terrible like most things do in a new pipe. Should just break out the ol' PA and be done with it but I digress... I'll have to try the 660 this weekend in a well seasoned Barling in order to get an honest opinion of it... but that will be hard to do since I have a new toy...

SG Navy flake in the new Peterson. Mmmmmmm... I'm getting sweet, tangy virginia and smoky bbq with notes of melting polyethylene. I will say this for Peterson so far: the melting plastic taste is far less than other pipes I've broken in. Others have been like burning polystyrene with occasional notes of tobacco.
Peter Stokkebye, Aromatic Dutch Sliced in the new Peterson: a burly blend I don't usually like. I don't like it now but I'm trying to build some cake in the heel of this thing. Burned to ash tho with no moisture in the bowl. Burleys are good for that. Drinking iced coffee. I should go load another bowl.
Recently opened a bag of Esoterica Brighton; my first time trying it.
It is a nice mild Virginia, with hints of anise and flowers.
I don't think it fits in the aromatic category, but it certainly isn't straight Virginia.
I like it. It is interesting!
I opened a 3 yo tin of Escudo yesterday — puffing that now in my Mark Tinsky brandy:
Mark Tinsky Sandblasted Brandy (4) | Buy Mark Tinsky Tobacco Pipes at Smokingpipes
This stout little pipe doesn’t have the grace of my Tinsky billiard, but it smokes good and feels good in hand.
Emperor Zurg: “I have a bit of Solani 660 airing out to try in it.”
You must like your tobacco really dry. I smoke 660 straight out of a new tin with no problems. I REALLY like the 660. I now have 18 unopened 100g tins in stock, plus some in a Weck jar. Curious to know how well you like it.
^^^^^^^^
The tins aren’t sealed, but I’m hoping that the mylar bag will keep the tobacco fresh. You’d probably prefer to see it go as dry as a bone. :)
Edit: I really like your new spigot mount pipe. I’m generally not a Peterson fan, but yours is a keeper.
Thanks. As I said before, I'm not a big Pete fan either, but I like this pipe.
Smoking a fill of Solani 660 in a Barling Canadian. So far it's only okay but no matter, I seldom like a new blend right away. Right now, the DFK seems to mute the Va too much and I find myself looking for the perique which of course, isn't there. I do like my tobacco pretty dry but not 'dry as a bone'. Especially not stored dry as a bone, that seems to deplete the flavor. I think this 660 will grow on me. I need to smoke a few more bowls.
In NYC at the NYC Pipe Club monthly meeting. Super nice group of guys and different tobacco's are flying around faster than I can smoke them.
PS Aromatic Dutched Sliced in the Pete again. More cakebuilding exercises.
Got a nice plate of braunschweiger & cheese crackers going tho and a glass of Spanish red wine.

I have been slacking in the pipe smoking department lately. I can't smoke inside and it's been to hot to just sit outside in the afternoon. So I only smoke on the golf course so I have been on cigars lately. I have realized I am more of a fall/spring pipe smoker? Is that a thing?

Had a bowl of PS Bullseye flake in a Rattray's Cherrywood
Spanish red and branschweiger alongside.
Also a bit of Sapphire gin for a change of pace. Interesting pairing, the VaPer and the gin...
Been working through some Eso. Brighton every couple days or so.
Interesting stuff.
PS Lux Twist Flake in a MM cob.
Don't like this as much as the bullseye. Too mild, mostly grassy / not fruity with some creamy, sweetish topping that I don't like. I didn't care for it fresh and a few years in a jar hasn't helped. I'll have to dry it more for the next bowl and see if that concentrates the flavor at all. If not, it's going down to age for a few more years.
Small bowl of what I'm calling G&H Brown Flake Vanilla in a Savinelli prince
Red wine, cheese, meat and olives too ;)
Where are all you pipe guys?
Bueller? Bueller?
I’m not an aro guy, but about a year ago I bought five Solani ready rubbed aros to try. I had previously tried three of them:
113, Sweet Mystery
127, Green Label
131, Red Label
I didn’t much like any of those. Today I opened the fourth: 333, Festival. SmokingPipes says of it:
“Virginias, black Cavendish, Burley and a touch of plum come together to form this delightful blend, Festival from Solani.”
Smoking a fill now, in my old Kirsten. And, by golly, I think I like it. Mild and tasty. One fill isn’t enough for a “buy more” decision, but it’s certainly better than the first three that I tried.
Black cavendish AND burley?? Can't say I'll be trying that one. Glad you found something you like tho. It's always nice to find something new you enjoy.
Smoked a bowl of PS, Bullseye flake last night with the cavendish bullseyes removed and discarded.
Spanish red wine and Castelvetrano olives too.

Puffing Solani 333, Festival, in my old Kirsten. After a dozen fills I’m still liking this tobacco — a lot! The first aro I’ve found that I like at all. Mild, but not too mild, with plenty of good tobacco flavor in addition to its plum flavoring. Such a welcome change-up from my usual Virginias.
Now I’m getting anxious to try Solani 369, the fifth of the five Solani ready-rubbed aros that I bought a year ago.
Burned a bowl of Hearth & Home, AJ's VaPer tonight in my Peterson Spigot.
Been a long time since I had this blend. Very enjoyable.
Sapphire gin and tonic kept in company.
Puffing Half and Half (Burley and Bright) from a pouch that’s been open for at least two years. Still pliable, thanks to the magic of ethylene glycol.
Kind of a nostalgia trip that takes me back to long ago college days when this and Middleton's Cherry Blend were my most frequently smoked pipe tobaccos. Both available at every drugstore, and inexpensive. Important for a college kid on a tight budget. And, by George, I’m enjoying it!
Moar AJ's VaPer. This time in a Stanwell Rhodesian.
Got some red wine and some cheese going too.
Puffing F&T Special Brown Flake from a 4 yo tin. The darker Virginia is good, and the lightly-applied rum flavoring is tasty. Like all F&T flakes, two neat side-by-side rectangular stacks. The most fragile flakes that I know of – easily rubbed out.
