Of late it’s been my habit to begin the day with these two tobaccos:
#1 — Patriot Flake
#2 — The Mallard
Both by Dan Tobacco. Now puffing TM in my Tinsky brandy. Very tasty, it is. But the fill nearly emptied my jar. I’ll use the little bit remaining for my next fill, and add enough Hamborger Veermaster to make a complete fill.
Historical report here - had a couple bowls of @Haebar 's homemade Navy Flake while taking a break from hunting Saturday morning (armed hiking really - never got a shot off). My hunting buddy had a bowl of it as well and agreed that it was a fine smoke! Clean VA, subtly sweet.
I just opened a tin of “The Mallard” (Dan Tobacco), and put it into a jar. Puffing that now in my Kirsten. This is a superb Virginia, and no mistake.

What were you hunting Bruce?
Had most of a bowl of Sam Gawith, Navy Flake in a Canadian - milkshake stout on the side.
Was near the bottom of both when a disgusting looking fly came out of nowhere and decided to go for a swim in the last of my beer. This my friends is why you should always drink beer from a GLASS - so you can see if some filthy insect is drowning in your drink... but I digress...
At that point, the rest of the bowl and the rest of the beer went into the wood stove and I headed inside
A bowl of Old Joe Krantz was the victim of a very localized arson this evening. It was not as stong as I remember it being nicotine wise last time I had some.
The weather has gone to shit here, normal high is 50 and the past week and going forward its 30's. I couldnt take it anymore and decided on a half a bowl of Lane BCA in the Dr. Plumb. I had to power puff it for time purposes but it hit the spot.

Started off the day with a bowl of Condor in a Sunrise Dublin. Hernia surgery tomorrow - not looking forward to this. Boss is going to let me work from home for two weeks to recuperate.
Because smoking hampers recovery? I have read that is the case; that it reduces circulation to the affected area.
Just lit up a bowl of Condor on top of a layer of 1993 Prince Albert in a Dr. Grabow billiard. Whoever sent me this 1993 Prince Albert, THANKS! I think maybe it was @Bruck or @BryGuySC ? This stuff smells like chocolate now and is smooth and mellow.
Probably @Bruck .
Don't think I've had any P.A. that old in my possession.
That and the fact that too much of anything is usually not a good idea.
On that note, Deer Season is once again upon us. This weekend I intend to smoke like a fiend while drinking copious amounts of coffee and eating jerky, cheese and nuts. I may even see a deer or two, you never know... Deer and turkey season is pretty much the reason I smoke pipes and cigars in the first place. It'll probably take my tongue a week to recover :p
Enjoying some Molto Dolce in this homemade monster while planning out my secret santa attac... I mean gift... :santa:
(wonder where i can find a couple tins of mixture #79...:behindsofa:)

Puffing F&T Vintage in my Tinsky coral billiard. This straight Virginia is going down nicely. The Tinsky isn’t fully broken-in, but I’m past the worst of it.
Well I hate to give away my secrets... :pipe:
But...
There is a heavy, 10" iron skillet that resides atop my stove pretty much all the time
I turn the burner on for maybe 30 seconds and then turn it off - just so the bottom of the skillet gets warm but far from hot
Then I put a paper plate in the warm skillet on which I have prepared and spread out a bowl's worth of tobacco
Doesn't take long and it's all about right for smoking
Now puffing Wessex Fragrant Virginia in my Tinsky. FV is a ready-rubbed red Virginia with cider topping. Very tasty.
Smoking some Five Brothers in a Genod apple that I got on Ebay just a few days ago.
Got a cobload of Sam Gawith, Navy Flake smoldering along in my deer blind. Got some hot coffee to accompany it.
I never smoke in the morning unless I'm hunting. Coffee goes good with this.
A little rubbed out Erinmore flake in this little un-named number.

That “unnamed number” looks like a nice little pot, Blake.
Puffing F&T Vintage in my old Kirsten.
Now doing a little afternoon hunting (armed smoking) with a MM General full of G&H, Louisiana Flake
That will come in time. Try the above and see if that helps any. Drawing slow is certainly key.
Also, if you've found a blend that works for you, stick with that for the time being and use the occasion to develop technique. Then try other blends from time to time and see how they compare. I didn't get much from the ropes and twists at first either... well, nothing but a woozy feeling that made me want to lie down. (I was smoking them too wet and puffing too fast but ymmv) Also, don't be stingy with the retro. Pipe blends do tend to lean toward the fragrant end of the taste vs smell spectrum. Not all of them tho.
I thought it was you, thanks. And it is Velvet and not Prince Albert like I said it was.
I've smoked several bowls of Five Brothers in an oval-shank Dunhill billiard this morning.
