Smoking an unmarked virginia bulk in my Medico Guardsman bulldog
Just finished a bowl of Nightcap (match) in a Yello-Bole bulldog
Smoked the remainder of a bowl of H&H Anniversary Flake (that I began earlier today) in a Rattray's Cherrywood. Then still had half my gose left so I smoked a small musketball of War Horse in a Frennch made Canadian
Started the month with Captain Black original in my Tally Ho
Going to continue the good feelings with some
PS Black Coffee in a Stanwell Brushed Brown Dublin
I’m not an aromatic guy, but some time ago I ordered five Solani aromatics that I’d never tried. The first of those, Solani 113, Sweet Mystery, I didn’t like. A week ago I opened the next one: Solani 127, Green Label. SmokingPipes says:
“A mixture of broad and very ripe Virginias and double fermented black Cavendish, Solani Green Label has a wonderful sweetness with a touch of apple flavor. Wild Cut.”
I’ve smoked it in several different pipes, and enjoyed it. The tobacco is quite good, and the flavoring is tasty and not overbearing.
I’m thinking that I might order more of the 127. But not until I’ve tried the three remaining aromatics.
That actually sounds pretty good. I usually avoid black Cavendish since IMO it tastes like lightly sweet, warm air but sometimes I find it in a condiment percentage in a particular blend and then it doesn't dilute the flavor too much.
Managed to burn a bowl of G&H Rum Flake tonight by the campfire and a couple small bowls of Esoterica Margate later in the night.
Morning smoke: Sutliff Voodoo Queen in an M&T Dundee that I've partially restored.
It smokes great, but I think I want to lighten it up a little more. Started out jet black, with a lot of little fills that were showing as white dots.

A little Sutliff Sunrise Smoke while the dog played around in the yard.
This is sweeter than I remembered. Bordering somewhere between aromatic and very light English.
I like your dog too. Here’s a wonderful dog story:
“Five-pound toy poodle named Pickles dies while protecting his family from a BEAR that broke into their home…”

I didn’t know you, Pickles, but rest in peace, Braveheart.
I just finished a fill of Dunhill Navy Rolls in my old Kirsten Mariner. Now puffing a fill of Wessex Classic Virginia, another vaper of red Virginia and Perique.
I’m about ready to declare WCV my single favorite tobacco. Ready rubbed, with a few clumps and no flavoring, it’s just plain good. I discovered WCV about a year ago. If I’d discovered it sooner my cellar would be filled with it. Hard to find in stock nowadays.
Puffing Solani 127, Green Label in my Luciano squat bulldog. This stuff is, without a doubt, the tastiest and most satisfying aromatic that I’ve ever smoked. See my comments about it above (09-02-2018).
Enjoyed a bowl of 1q in a mm cob with a bamboo shank while grilling some burgers. Been a while since I lit a pipe and was not disappointed
NON-TOBACCO-RELATED POST (sorry, not sorry)
Meant to mention on last response; he is a great dog! Possibly 100% American Pitt Bull.
He is a rescue, about 2 years old. Poor guy was neglected when we got him.
You could see his spine sticking out of his back. He has multiple scars and abrasions along one side of his body, some the size of your thumb.
Most of the scars now have white hair around them, making them stand out against his brindle coat. Obviously, the big ones will never have hair.
He is the sweetest, gentlest good boy! Great with little kids, and loves to snuggle!
He is still learning how to play, but he is really smart, and picks up tricks and training very quickly (except for when he is being exceptionally stubborn!).
Here are a couple pics:
This is the day he came home. Happiest dog ever!

LOL!!! Love the last pic.
He thinks he's people :p
I opened a 4 yo tin of F&T Vintage yesterday — puffing a fill of that now. A medium Virginia with a bit of flavoring, the tin note is scrumptious. It’s the prettiest flake that I know of — light, medium, and darker bits of tobacco. Like all F&T flakes, there are two side-by-side stacks of perfectly rectangular flakes that separate easily. For me, at least, moisture is just right.
Smoking a bowl of a burley forward mix in an unfinished Sav straight Billiard.
Work called on account of rain so I figured i'ld start the weekend smokes.
Puffing Solani 127, Green Label, in my old Kirsten Mariner. I’m enjoying this tobacco more than any other aromatic that I can recall. It’s a bit fluffy — I can’t get as much into my pipe (by weight) as I can with most other tobaccos.
I always weigh the tobacco charge on my Ohaus Scout Pro digital balance. It reads directly to 0.1 gram resolution, and I can interpolate to 0.05 grams. I can get 2.1 grams of most tobaccos into the Kirsten, but only 1.8 grams of the Solani 127.
I've got nothing against aromatics per se, I just avoid them because so many of them suck.
However, there's nothing quite like a good aromatic when you find one that works for you.
...and unlike flavored cigars, you never have to suffer a 'sweetened cap' :puke:
I might have to try this one you speak highly of.
Speaking of cigars, I do believe I'll head toward that side this afternoon.
Failing that, I also have a jar of Happy Bogie calling my name for either chaw or smoke.

and a little Blantons
About to light up my first bowl of GH #25 Mixture in a Comoy's Guildhall billiard. Drinking some iced tea that I made from an assortment of different tea bags that I had lying around in the kitchen cabinet - Earl Grey, Constant Comment, Mint, etc. Just trying to get rid of them, so I made some iced tea with them. It's not bad. Long day at work chained to my desk trying to get out five reports by the end of the day, which I did. I'd much rather work outside, which I do 50% of the time.
Got a bowl of Happy Bogie smouldering along in my Savinelli billiard.
Smoking and driving, running errands.
G&H best brown #2 in my oldest cob. life is pretty ok I guess. stupid strong tea on the side. sitting outside with a crossman trying to thin the herd of squirrels destroying the popcorn crop.
Started an early morning at 4:00 with a bowl of GH Kendal Flake in an Albert John apple.
Had a bowl of McClelland 2015 Virginia/Perique flake in a Savinelli Roma 114KS earlier.
Now enjoying a bowl of Dunhill Navy Rolls in my unfinished Savinelli Series III.
Working my way through about 8 different aromatic samples, trying to find something to mix together for a holiday smoke.
So far, all disappointing. I know I'm not an aromatic smoker, but I still try every once and a while. It always comes back to bite me (pun intended).
I'll post a short review of each, when I get through them.
I'll probably just going to open a nice virginia for the holidays.
^^^^^^
I’m not a fan of holiday blends either.
Not enough F&T Vintage in my tin for a fill so I added some Hamborger Veermaster. Quite good! Wish that I’d tried this while I had more Vintage. Will remember next time.
Having a cobful of G&H Rum Flake while sitting by a campfire.
Also having a few beerz
I just opened a 2-1/2 yo tin of Escudo — puffing that now in my old aluminum Kirsten Mariner. One nice thing about the Kirsten — I never draw in a bit of tobacco, or bitter ash, no matter how far down I smoke the charge.
Having my first bowl of the day late today.
Just pulled back into town in time to watch the Cowboys game.
Now enjoying a bowl of Peterson Irish Flake in my unfinished Savinelli Series III
Puffing F&T Blackjack in my Caminetto pot with silver spigot mount. It’s said to be a red Virginia, but strawberry blonde is closer to the mark. No topping, but tasty — a bit acidic. Dry out of the tin — almost like straw. Consequently it comes in the largest 50g tin I’ve ever seen (to accommodate its bulk). The same diameter as an Escudo tin, but at least 25% taller.
I was up a little early today.
I actually had time for a tiny smoke this morning, in my mini-sized Dorm, Jr. (ignore the slobber. I was also drinking coffee.)
Smoking an English Kake I made a few years ago. When it is gone, it is gone forever; most of the ingredients were McClelland tobaccos.

I also found a leftover sample of Penzance, with a few years age on it. A very different English. Drier, woodier, with a nice incense fragrance from the orientals.
I think I like them both equally well, but will never have more either (well, maybe the Penzance, but I'm not bending over backwards to get any).
SG lakeland dark in a Jeantet prince. This stuff is stout, careful puffing and a few minutes puts ya in a great mood!
