Long ago and very far away, I used to buy Navy Flake in pound boxes. It used to come in pound boxes just wrapped in polythene. No real seal, so by the time you took it home the enormous amount of moisture SG used had evaporated to the point it was ready to smoke. That was before the UK went insane and changed to grams and did away with shillings and real money. Then one day, I just stopped smoking it. I still have a jar with some in it, but VERY slowly it has continued to dry even though it is sealed. Now it is dry and tough like beef jerky and the flavour has changed if I remember correctly. It is still a decent, but harsher smoke. I can testify that there is a limit to the benefits of aging however, and this tobacco is past its sell by.
