Finishing the day with a fill of 2+ yo Capstan Medium. Soft and tasty.
Smoking another bowl of IRC Slices, this time rubbed out. Rubbing out this flake makes a world of difference; it's easier to keep lit, it tastes sweeter, and you can taste the Perique.
Just finished an excellent early morning smoke in a Dr. Grabow Royal Duke billiard. Smoked some of a blend that a guy in our pipe club made - tastes like Prince Albert with some Virginia and a little Latakia.
I'm headed out with a healthy dose of Solani-ABF in my apple meer. Only one week left for MMM on the other spot I frequent, in the past 3 weeks this girl has had 90 smokes go through here. By the end of the "event" (it's less an event and more just for fun sake) I should be around the 110 smokes through her. Then it's time for a re wax and a week or so rest to regain her strength. In fact I was out cleaning some of my briars & cobs yesterday getting them ready to be back in rotation. They got a good Everclear scrubbing in the shanks and stems, still need to ream a couple and do a light carnauba buffing.
This was the scene yesterday as I smoked a Partagas 1845 Extra Oscuro

Also doing some resto work on a Kaywoodie white briar, Baraccini dublin and Kaywoodie flame grain (not shown in the pic)
Just got home from work.
Fired up a bowl of Dunhill Navy Rolls to go with this larger than normal glass of Scotch.
Because eff this week.
Rattray's Black Mallory in a Redonian army-mount billiard
A new blend (for me) from Ole Shenandoah Appalachian Berry. I didn't think I was going to like it at first. I have to admit though, this was surprisingly tasty. It was a quick trip to the store so I didn't feel like digging for my Dagner Poker. Instead I used a small cob.
BTW, Howdy everyone! First post, so yea, I'm the FNG aboard this vessel. Salue!
Half bowl of Margate this morning.
Welcome @Gunney D
Finished off a bowl of Oriental Blend in a Swiss BBK and looking forward to some Captain Black in
a Dr Grabow Savoy.
Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky in a Rossi lumberman and a few bowls of Rattray's Red Raparee in the gourd this evening. Saturday night binge I guess. Drank a New Holland, Dragon's milk and some 'milkshake' stout that was pretty darn good along with it. Nice evening. I'm going to bed.
Same old story: sipping my weekly fill of ten yo FVF in my 60+ yo aluminum-stem Kirsten Mariner -- the least-expensive, but sweetest-smoking, pipe I own. I chopped up the FVF and spread it on a plate to dry while I enjoyed a pipeful of Solani ABF.
And listening to a two-hour baroque music program on KUSC FM, out of Los Angles.
Been working on lawn mowers and re-arrainging furniture. Time to snatch up a meer and some
SG Golden Glow. Dang it I should have bought some beer, oh well, I've got some cola.
McClelland Blackwoods Flake in my bent Savinelli Series III.
Mixed up some leftovers and open jar stuff.
Mostly Blackwoods Flake, with some condimental Best Brown Flake, and just a pinch of Latakia and perique.
It was pretty good!
Rattray's Bagpiper's Dream in a MM cob
McClelland Red and Black in a London made Ben Wade apple.
10:30 and still firing off emails and other monotonous bullshit...this toasty bowl of 3 Oaks Syrian is going to be my cut off for tonight. When it's done, so am I.
Smoking a mixture of a few that I just had a tiny bit of.
There's some PS Luxury Bullseye, some Marlin Flake and some McClelland Red and Black for sure. Maybe a couple others as well, all Virginias or Vapers though.
It's pretty good.
SG Full Virginia Flake in my Ben Wade freehand.
Hearth & Home Chestnut in a Willard small billiard
Puffing Solani ABF. If there's a better straight burley I'd like to know of it. But I doubt that there is.
Having an after work bowl of the pipe club VaBurPer mix in a Dr. Grabow Royal Duke billiard with a filter inside.
Ah,,, Hell's Bells ! I went and done it. SWMBO has been working on getting the closet cleaned out. going thru all her clothes
and getting rid of a bunch. Well she came across a couple tins of Dunhill I had hidden. That wouldn't have been such a problem,
but I screwed up and left the receipt. Seems that "When" I bought them was about the time her birthday was all she got was a
card and some flowers. Y'all pray fer me, in the meantime I'm gonna go smoke some Potlatch and redecorate the doghouse.
McClelland Dark Star.
This is only my 2nd bowl of this and I'm not sure what to think about it yet.
I think I'm going to get in to reviewing more tobaccos in the near future and will do this one soon, after I've had enough to get a good handle on it.
The reviews I've done in the past have all been predictable, as I have reviewed blends that I knew that I loved.
I am going to start reviewing some that I've never tried before to try and get some good honest reviews out there that I don't have any pre formed thoughts about yet.
I think it will be fun.
C&D Exclusive in a Collegiate Custom saddle-bit small billiard.
I really like the stuff. I like anything with a sour hit it seems. Dark Star has sour in spades for the first half of the bowl.
Having another go-round with G&H Bright CR Flake.
I didn't like this at all the first time I tried it - which is normal for me - but now, with only 6 months in a jar, I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It reminds me a lot of Louisiana flake but not as grassy as that one. It's slightly floral - no doubt because of the light Lakeland topping (which has faded quite a bit in the last 6 months) rather fruity (reminds me of dried apricots although not nearly that sweet or potently fruity) and somewhat sweet. IDK if there's perique in this blend or not - haven't looked it up on TR to find out - but there's a bit of pepper both on the tongue and also the retro. It's nice. I did a rough rub-out prep; just enough to break the flakes into some strands and mostly chunks. Burned a little hot but I had let it dry quite a bit before loading up in a Barling. Not really a big deal because the flavor is best by far if lightly sipped.
Enjoying a quick half bowl of Margate after work, but before church.
This stuff is delicious.
And it's much easier to find than Penzance!
I'm trying to finish off this blend that my pipe club friend gave me last month, a Virginia, Burley, and Perique concoction made with only C&D tobaccos. Smoking a bowl of it in a Dr. Grabow Royal Duke straight billiard. I've got about 1.5 bowls left.
Exhausted Rooster in my Stanwell Silver band. Really loving this stuff.
I've had 3 bowls today.
Drew Estate Meat Pie in a Savinelli Bing's Favorite.
Dunhill 3 year matured Virginia in a Dr. Grabow Berwyck.
Dunhill Elizabethan in a pre-Republic Peterson Shamrock.
Debating one last bowl of something before bed. Haven't decided yet.
Two bowl morning. Started with a bowl of burley flake scraps in a Dunhill Bruyere bent billiard and am about to start on a bowl of IRC Slices in a Dunhill Bruyere Canadian with a repaired cracked shank.
Nice photo, Blake.
Mixed some burley flake scraps and IRC slices in the blender and it is pretty good! Smoking it in an estate Medico Crest Zulu that I just got in the mail today from Ebay.
Earlier today, my tin of Capstan was nearly empty, so I added enough Solani ABF for a complete fill. That was pretty good. Now I'm puffing a fill of Dunhill Flake from a just-opened tin with two years of age on it. It's excellent -- been awhile since I've smoked DF. Nothing fancy about it, just plain top-notch Virginia.
