Puffing Solani 656, Aged Burley Flake. The more I smoke this tobacco the more I appreciate its rich nutty flavor. Good stuff, indeed. Goes nicely with my Nespresso light roast Arabica espresso.

And thinking about lunch, which will feature two Italian sausages, cooked in my Breville Smart Grill. It's kind of like a George Foreman, but better materials, construction, and design. The heating elements are embedded in the plates, which can be removed for easy clean-up in the sink.
So far two bowls of Captain Black, first was original and second was Gold.
I've a meer loaded with PS Black Coffee ready to smoke. Y'all have a

Thinking of taking the gourd calabash for a spin but not sure what to fuel it with tonight... maybe some G&H, rum flake.
Celebrating IPSD with some straight Tambolaka in a mini meer with a red stem, because, why not?

had some Bur/Lat/Cav kake a pal sent in a trade in an old stock French pipe I'm breaking in, to join in on the IPSD festivities.
Took the gourd for a spin last night as planned but ran two tank fulls thru it being as IPSD was what... Saturday(?) and I didn't smoke anything all weekend. First run was with Solani 656 and I must say this blend is much nicer in a briar, IMO anyway. Next up was McC Smyrna #1 which behaves very well in this pipe. I've never had a pipe that smokes so cool and dry but it does tend to mute or maybe blur together certain flavors, though I never know which flavors are going to be most affected.

My tin of Solani ABF went empty, so I popped open a tin of Capstan Medium (blue tin label) with 2+ years of age in it. The best durned tobacco that Mac Baren makes. Very tasty, it is.

If you're shopping for a blend with a fantastic room note, this is NOT your huckleberry.
Tasty tho IMO. Reminds me of Brown Irish X with a tonquin topping... Where's my coffee...
More or less like I expected. Tasted like what I remembered, even if it had been over a year since I last smoked a pipe. Gonna take some practice to get the loading and packing right again. The pipe seems to smoke about as well as one of my cobs from what I remember.
You could try that upside down swirl thing. it's a pretty foolproof way to load a pipe. There's a link to the video around here somewhere.
Curse those leaky tins. Seems every time you open one there's less tobacco inside than there was the last time you opened it...
Well, work sucked today.
But this McClelland No. 24 matured Virginia and Knob Creek on the rocks did not.

Here's a good one.
And I must say, that is one handsome devil demonstrating it in this one.

Just finished off the last of my "Louisiana Perique." Probably won't get any more of it - not really my cup of tea. I like perique in a blend but I don't like to be smacked over the head with it :)
Now burning some "Soo Blend." It's a house blend from Austen's in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Austen's is an antique furniture store with a tobacco department in back. Hey, it's a pretty small town! Anyway, the blend is an aromatic, pretty sweet, a little heavy on the burley.
I had the name slightly wrong. It's Smokers Haven of the Southtowns and I'm not so sure this place is associated with the other Smokers haven stores. I know it is not tied to the online store, it has it's own web page. The owner carves his own pipes and supposedly blends everything in house, but who really knows.
Either way the pipe seemed to stay lit a bit better and I seem to enjoy this better than the Carter Hall so far.
Alternating fills of DF and Capstan Medium (blue tin label) in my big Il Duca Rhodesian.
But some bad news… I was on SmokingPipes web site this evening, and noticed that 50g Dunhill Flake now comes in the round tins, rather than the little rectangular ones. I keep enough tobacco on hand that storage space is a big issue, and those round tins are far less space-efficient than the little rectangular ones. I might have to think about an alternative for DF. But I currently have enough on hand to last a few years.

Just finish with a bowl of Peterson's Sunset Breeze. Used the Ol-Vic tonight
and I'm thinking it's time for a salt treatment. Got a bad taste of bitters.
(yesterday) McClelland Blackwoods Flake in a cob while tossing around a frisbee with the boys.
I've been smoking some homemade tobaccos made by a member of our pipe club, Ted Sluder. Last night I smoked an unnamed blend that has Perique, red Virginia, Burley and bright Virginia that is topped with Jack Daniels Honey Jack in MM CG. This morning I had one of his blends with some McClelland's 5100, latakia, and Oriental; this one also topped with Honey Jack. Smoked this one in a Ben Wade second bent bulldog.

Smoking some Voodoo Queen I got from Tobias long ago. In a cob with a bent forever stem I got from Haebar in the SPS exchange a few years ago...Been neglecting my pipes for a long time, it's nice to pick it back up.
Have a wonderful day, brothers!
MATCH Elizabethan in a Dr. Grabow on my lunch break.
Rainy and 50° or thereabouts. Good evening for some calabashery. Something stout sounds good but the only thing I have on hand is D&R Picayune which I don't care for. Maybe the gourd will work some magic on it...
update:
The gourd seems to tone the pepper down to a tolerable level and bring out some sweetness and a nutty flavor. Still not my favorite blend but much better than the last time I smoked it in a cob. I could probably get used to this. Everybody needs one of these pipes; it's fun to smoke.

Enjoying the nice summer weather with a briarful of Peter St. Luxury Bullseye Flake.
After lunch I was still hungry, so I toasted two slices of good sourdough and spread them with herbed butter. So good. I just don't have a sweet tooth. I like buttered toast, or even buttered bread, better than just about any cake. Now puffing an after-lunch fill of DF. That hits the spot too.
