I always keep some Carter Hall around. I rarely want it, and when I smoke it I typically daydream about other tobaccos, but I still reach for it now & then, you know?

Hearth & Home Porch Swing in a Grabow pot
Puffing Escudo from a just-opened tin. I love the aroma from the tin that's due, I think, to the Perique.
Tried a free sample of C&D Bourbon Bleu last evening. Not bad but there are better VaPers out there. This one is supposedly a VaPerKy (a genre I'm not partial to either - keep ALL your burleys out of my VaPers!) but with the first bowl ever, I didn't pick up any DFK and barely any perique... I also didn't pick up any bourbon, which it's supposedly topped with. All of which would have been fine I guess but it also seems to be mostly yellow Va with smatterings of other leaf. I'm no blender mind you but I think I would have liked more tangy, red Va in it. That and it's a crumble kake, which is one of my least favorite cuts... reminds me of compressed floor tobacco sweepings. I don't think I'll be buying any to cellar... not that it's bad but I already have more tobacco than I'll ever smoke. If I'm going to cellar a stash of something new it will be to replace something 'meh' so it had better be freaking awesome.

Chewing a small bit of 1792 flake this morning. Does that count?
Don't know why, I never smoke in the morning but for some reason a small dip sounded good today.
A bowl of:
70% McClelland 5110
15% McClelland Red Cake
15% Shortcut to Mushrooms
Not bad. Definitely more interesting.
I never saw any of my family smoking when I was growing up, nor pics of it; but there were a LOT of the big Sir Walter Raleigh tins lining the shelves of my grandad's workshop.

Glad you are (relatively) okay.
Very clever these Chinese... well most of the time! I had a ladder slide out from under me years ago, snapped both bones in my right wrist clean through and had a nasty concussion too. Only bones I've ever broken. Get well friend, we're getting to old for this sh!t.
It is pretty new - within the last couple of months, I think. Lane is trying to get into the tinned stuff instead of being primarily bulk, or so it seems.
I would like a bit more Lat in the blend, but I'm a bit of a fiend for the stuff. Either way, it smokes dry and cool and has a lovely - not treacly to me - taste. Reminds me vaguely of carob.
Samuel Gawith "Sam's Flake" in another new, inexpensive pipe: a Baraccini Ole Shenandoah Sandblast, Copper Stack Poker. It almost looks like a bent gavel... if there is such a thing. P&C had Old Shenandoah pipes on sale last week pretty cheap so I picked one up. Not a bad looking pipe at all; it just has to get more black around the rim and some dirt in the pores so it doesn't look so... lumbersexual.
Sam's Flake smells great in the tin; like some kind of apple fritters being baked... didn't care much for the taste first bowl but it holds promise so I'm sure it'll grow on me. Don't think it'll unseat the Mayor's Chocolate Flake though. At least this pipe doesn't exude the wretched chemical taste that the Rossi had. It's got that black, furnace cement gunk in the chamber but I don't get any nasty flavor coming off this one... I thought that Rossi pipe was going to kill me.

Yessir, it's been several uncomfortable nights trying to sleep. I can't lay on either side nor my back or belly right now. Been trying to sleep sitting up in the recliner the best I can. I've been getting 3 to 4 hours of broken sleep or mini naps each night. I kind of feel like I have a dose of the "grumpy sleepy baby" syndrome........

Had some PS Luxury Twist Flake in a small cob on my balcony in the snow.
We got a few snowflakes so Arkansas came to a screeching halt.
We have .5" of snow. The main roads are good, but the neighborhoods are still snow slick. I live on a corner/half circle and most people cut the corner (see F1 or Nascar Racing) to not use the circle. My neighbor is just perfect for someone to lose it and knock their mailbox down. I seen it go down once when a car tapped it with it's rear end today. It was just knocked off the post. I seen another dude come at it too fast and just locked it up to pile it into the curb. He tried to drive off a couple of times and got back out scratchin' his @$$ to look at his right front tire/wheel/fender assembly as it was one of those "Speck" style cars that doesn't have the clearance to run over a Walmart bag without issues. He eventually had to turn around and go back the way he came from. I assume to get it home before it fell apart.....
Hope you feel better soon! Mrs. Bruck took a spill off of a ladder in October and is still recovering.
I'll put some Nic. Rustica in the mail for you this weekend :)
And for the record, I'm having some Five Brothers by a crackling fire and two beers - Mrs. wife opened up one for me and then one for herself, but it was one she didn't like, so now I have two :)
I hope Mrs. Bruck gets to feeling better soon. I just don't seem to heal up as fast as I used to. 25-30 years ago, I would've been laughing about it for a spell and have been healed up in 2 days. I laughed about it for around 2 minutes after it happened, poured 4 fingers of Buchanan's 18 year old scotch and decided it was getting awful late. I was talked into staying up until midnight to celebrate the new year. YeeeeHawwwww..... I appreciate it Bruce!
Daughters & Ryan Rimboche SJ in a mm cob
-1 this morning for my commute. This called for some warmth, so some well aged Pelican in my Sav bully happened.
Puffing Capstan Medium, with 2+ years of age on it, in my Kirsten Mariner. Thinking of lunch… I'll have some of the Colin Street Bakery fruitcake that my brother and SIL send me at Christmas. Very tasty, it is. Especially after I dribble some Bushmills Black Bush Irish whiskey over it. They're Baptist, so I don't tell 'em about the whiskey.
Ole Shenandoah Barrel #76 this morning on the early drive to work.

Stonehaven in a smooth, straight Irish Second
Smoking a bowl of my VaPer kake #1 in a straight, smooth Sunrise Dublin.
It is the most robust and rich VaPer I have ever smoked, not that that's a good thing or to be bragging. What I mean is that it has a lot of body; you have to sip it or else be overwhelmed by the weight of the smoke. Not sure if it doesn't have too much Perique in it or if it is a factor with the two Virginia components that were from whole leaf. I enjoyed it and didn't get too addled by nicotine, but it is a really full-bodied blend.
I was lucky to nab a tin of Pelican in an Ebay buy a couple of months ago. It was in a lot of tins and I spotted it up in the far corner of the picture and asked her if they had been opened and she said no. Also got some older unopened Dunhill tins in the deal too. I'm hanging on to mine for a special occasion.
It's been raining here for 48 hours straight and is suppose to continue through Thursday. Normally, when I want a pipe, I'll grab my laptop and sit on the deck, but with all the rain I'm breaking my rule and smoking in my bedroom with a window open and a fan blowing out. A couple of coins of Escudo folded and stuffed into a Il Ceppo straight sandblasted Dublin. Escudo never disappoints.

I filled this bowl up Friday evening and am just now getting around to smoking it. I don't have a clue what I even stuffed it with. Ignorance is bliss baby!......

Weather is nuts! It was 2 degrees yesterday morning and I was shaking like a dog trying to pass a peach seed. It looks like it'll be in the sixties for a high most of the week.....Just nutz......
Bowl didn't get too heated up, so I set it down for a spell and loaded the IL Monaco up with some SPC Mississippi River along with a splash of Crown Royal Black to keep the pie hole lubricated enough to consume such said tobacco.....

Shortcut to Mushrooms in a cob while cutting a bit of firewood before heading off to work.
Alternating fills of Escudo and Solani 656, Aged Burley Flake, in my Il Duca Rhodesian. Both tobaccos are going great today -- a big improvement from yesterday, when both tasted a bit sour. I get that "sour" effect occasionally. No idea why -- can't correlate it to anything.
The Duke is the heaviest pipe I own, and my only bent pipe, but it's just barely bent…

decided to break 10 day tobacco fast with a Mark Twain Churchill. bad idea. I thought "pfahh, it's a connie, loose roll, it'll burn quick". eyes were bigger than stomach. Almost pulled it off, felt a touch queasy at 1 1/2" remaining and tossed it. 5 minutes later I was crapping my brains out and dry heaving. My nicotine tolerance is the worst! should have had a tiny bowl of three sails or Rimboche SJ or something. Live and learn (and puke).
