Having my first bowl of P.S. Proper English in a MM Marcus cob. The tobacco had quite a few small sticks which were easily removed and the pouch note suggested this would be a latakia bomb but it's not at all. It was somewhat moist and I let it dry for about 30 minutes before loading. I'm about half way through the bowl and no relights needed so far. I get occasional sour notes which I suspect is the Virginia. It's not a blend I'll reach for when I want a heavy latakia fix but maybe in the morning when I'm in the mood for a lighter English. This is one that I might play around with, adding more lat and perhaps some perique, but I'll also smoke it as is. Hopefully a little age will tame the sour Virginia.

Having a cobful of Gawith Black Irish XX. Here's my review on tobaccoreviews.com:
I tried a little experiment before smoking this stuff - I shaved off all of my chest hair. Sure enough, after one bowl it all grew back!
Seriously, Black XX is not for the newbie or faint of heart. I like to slice off a coin or two when I feel like a good kick in the pants. Flavor is strong, not at all sweet, rich, leathery, and nutty. I don't get that feeling of having my mouth coated with plastic that I get from other ropes.
Others have noted the rather off-putting appearance, so I won't dwell on that. My only issue with it is the difficulty of keeping a good burn going.
This stuff makes pretty good chaw, FWIW.
