It's discontinued now. Golden Extra is supposed to be similar but not quite the same and is still in production. I bought a pound of Golden extra but haven't tried a bowl yet. Smells sweet/honey like macbarens tend to, and I notice a distinct licorice aroma from it.

To me, it does. I love the stuff.
There are several differences between Golden Extra and BLB. GE is sweeter without the light edge that BLB has, which comes from white burley. Never noticed any licorice from GE, though.

First pipe of the day is Balkan Sasieni in a MM Legend cob. I'm becoming quite fond of this blend. It took me many years to come round to an appreciation for any blend with latakia, used to think they all tasted like soap, but in the last 3 years or so I've developed a taste, and sometimes even a craving for them. I've read a number of reviews on this blend. Some rate it highly, some not so much, but the common thread in the unfavorable reviews seems to be that it's not Balkan Sobranie. I've never had the opportunity to sample that blend, so cannot make a comparison, but I enjoy this enough to have just ordered several more tins.
Edit: While I do enjoy this I have to admit to finding the room note rather foul.
