2015 Dunhill Royal Yacht in a 1984 Ser Jacopo Renaissance #306, sandblasted, taper billiard. Diet Pepsi on a gorgeous late Spring afternoon, full of sun.
I thought that this would be a good pairing, pipe and tobacco, after my first smoke in this behemoth with GH Louisiana Flake.
Verdict, I liked the Royal Yacht before but I like it better now.

Smoking my homemade HALF and HALF "Burley and Bright". Solani 656 for the burley and Dunhill Flake for the bright. Quite good – a helluva lot better than the stuff that comes in the red, white, and green pouch with its over-the-top topping and ethylene glycol.
Edit – long ago every drugstore in the Midwest carried H&H, PA, etc.

It's incredibly muggy tonight so I left my GH Louisiana Flake open on the table and it's re-hydrating nicely to where I like it best (tack moist).
A 50/50 blend of C&D Star of the East with LL BL/WB in a bent brandy. It was good.

Smoking Dunhill Flake in my trusty Kirsten Mariner. This is my favorite un-topped Virginia. I've smoked this stuff longer than any other tobacco in my current rotation – starting when it was known as Light Flake.
I've often thought of buying a tin to try it... but then you have Sam Gawith Full Va Flake available in bulk and Newminster 400 available in bulk for darn cheap, so I've never pulled the trigger. (Although it seems the latter can stand a bit of age before smoking to take the bite out of it.) How does Dunhill Flake compare to these?
I do enjoy Dunhill Flake when I'm in the mood for a straight VA blend. It is a fine quality flake. It and FVF are my favorites.
I really enjoy the straight VAs when the weather is warm which means I'll be smoking more of them here in the near future.
I think I'm going to buy a couple of tins to stick back. I bet 4-5 years really makes it shine.
I've had a few bowls today so I'll list them all here.

I've no experience with Newminster 400. I do smoke FVF occasionally, and like it, but get tired of it after a couple of pipefuls. When I open a tin of FVF, I jar it with some humidifier capsules, then smoke one pipeful a day. OTOH, while I do like variety, I could smoke DF all day, everyday, and enjoy it if nothing else was available. It has such a clean, crisp VA flavor. I keep enough stock on hand that my tins are ~2 years old when I open them.
So why did you get rid of it? (chuckles)
Ellis Milan and his brother (pardons, forgot his name) were some of the classiest people I've ever had the pleasure to know. Milan Brothers always brings a smile to my face.
The VA flake I'm hitting all the time now is this Gawith Hoggarth Louisiana Flake and the ambient rh has moistened it back to where I like it best. I've smoked much of this 15 month old vacuum bag (that was 300-grm, per my note on bag), will finish it soon and it's been delicious.
with that in mind,
2015 Gawith Hoggarth Louisiana Flake in a 1984 Ser Jacopo L1 saddle panel. Ice water on a humid, humid day. This pipe has been over 30 years of wonderful service and taste.
