Part way through this bowl of Watch City Flake #558 in a 1988 smooth full bend Peterson System Standard XL 315. Have enough left for a bowl or so. Simply Lemonade is my drink.

Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky in a Dr. Grabow Omega. Very pleased with this, I'll have no problems finishing this tin, I'll leave the other one alone to season...should have got more!

Landon, that's the refrain of all pipe smokers, "I should have gotten more."

    Just finished last and starting:
    1996 Samuel Gawith 1792 Flake in a 1961 Barling's Make #7574 smooth canadian.

Still a pronounced Lakeland essence but the tobacco has aged very well (I opened it in 2014 and stored in a mason since). Moves like a defensive lineman who could still dance ballet and a it has a great snork. Very firm but not pushy.

I'm like a dog at the end of his leash, always reaching and hoping for more but my wallet won't allow it!

As for the 1792, would you classify it as Lakeland? I never got any soapyness or floral notes out of it but the tonquin bean flavor is definite.

Finished up that small flake of Orlik and now going to move on to a Schizo cigar. Going to run a few errands now.

Good question. I'd call it a Lakeland because there's more (that I smell) in there than just tonquin and it's pretty heavy (for me). I don't (can't?) distinguish the individual aromas in Lakelands so when a Gawith (either company) mixture is heavily top sauced I think Lakeland.

I was drawn to it in 1996, because of the tonquin, when I was realized that my Elephant & Castle stash was shrinking fast. McConnell (E&C) used coumarin that's related to tonquin (both extracted from the tonka bean). McConnell used coumarin sparingly while the Gawiths and Germain can have a heavy hand with tonquin but the 1792 is a very good tobacco, well made and with a lot of flavor.

How's that Red Rapp doing for you?
