Had two bowls of Virginia tobacco. Virginia Gold, Black & Gold from @Bruck , and a bowl of Virginia Blend from Ted's Pipe Shop which is Tulsa's oldest pipe shop. Virginia tobacco seems to have a sweet taste going on best I can tell with my rookie opinion.....
Yes, Virginias tend to be sweet and have hints of grass/hay. The Black & Gold is a VA/Cavendish blend, with some light added sweet flavoring.
You may wish to procure some Virginia flakes next time you visit Ted's. Early on in my pipe smoking, which was not all that long ago, I tried some Rattray's VA Flake and that's when the light went on for me - so this is what pipe smoking is all about!

Just lit a bowl of SPC Mississippi River in the Vauen. Wish I'd bought less of this; it tastes like it was blended by committee...
This evening I am having a bowl of Dan's Hamborger Veermaster in my extra large Rossi freehand.:piper: I was digging thru my stash and came across this tobacco and I knew that it was exactly what I was looking for; I had not smoked this tobacco in more than 6 months. I first became acquainted with this tobacco several years ago when Mark (Mooster) was smoking this tobacco day after day for a long time.:banghead: This was during my Puff Forum days. Since my early days of coming back to the pipe I have been following Mark because his tastes in tobacco was so similar to mine. Mark had driven me crazy smoking this tobacco day after day after day. Unfortunately I was not able to procure this tobacco for more than 6 months; it was simply not available.:bawling: This tobacco has a very distinct flavor profile that I like and since those early days I have never been without it. Needless to say this evenings smoke is delicious. I am topping off this smoke with an ice cold mug of "Guinness Draught" brew while listening to Xmas music.:beerchug:
Finishing off the night with something called Fall Classic from Ted's Pipe Shop....
Esoterica And So to Bed in a mini meer.
I gave some Penzance to a BOTL co-worker, who loved it but was at the same time pizzed bcs I have scored some a couple times and he never is able to :) Anyway, he says And So to Bed is the same thing, and gave me some to try. It ain't :) It's not too bad, though. I'd say it's a lighter, fruitier version of Penzance, with less of a Lat hit. So I guess that makes it an entirely different animal.
