Lol! I've been told that if you ever saw braunschweiger being made you'd certainly never eat the stuff
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Puffing “The Mallard” (Dan Tobacco) in my newish Tinsky billiard. TM is a VERY tasty straight Virginia.

“The Mallard is a smooth Ready Rubbed Flake based on the extraordinarily rich and full-bodied sweet Zambian Virginia that was carefully fermented and matured under pressure. There was no need to add any flavorings to enhance its aroma, and it has found great reception among committed friends of pure natural tobacco and among lovers of flavored pipe mixtures as well. You can look forward to a wonderfully gentle smoke with a perfectly rich and sweet Virginia taste.”

This is the third day that I’ve smoked this pipe. The Lakeland taste is nearly gone — I probably wouldn’t notice it at all if I wasn’t looking for it.

Relighting can be difficult with loose ash on top. But tamping with a pipe nail fixes that problem for me. I never have to dump the ash.

    Funny! And a real possibility.

Another possibility: The first day I smoked this pipe I found its draw a bit tight. And if a crumb of tobacco got into the bit, the draw got really tight, and it was hard to clear with a pipe cleaner. I thought I was going to have to ream out the bit with a 1.5mm round needle file. But when I sat down to do that I discovered some detritus in the bit, close to its near end. I was able to push that out with a straightened paper clip, after which the draw was free and easy. Maybe the original owner hadn’t discovered that detritus, so returned the pipe. His loss, my gain!

Puffing 4 yo Dunhill Flake in my Kirsten — darned good tobacco. Sipping dark roast coffee. And thinking about lunch. Yesterday I went to the deli counter to buy some Braunschweiger, but they didn’t have any, so I had them slice some Genoa salami instead. I’ll have that on toasted pumpernickel with mustard, black pepper and onion. Not enough room in the sandwich for the amount of onion that I like, so I’ll just put pieces of onion directly into my mouth with each bite of sandwich.
