Just got home for the weekend. Smoking some GH Dark Bird's Eye in a Comoy's Guildhall billiard.

FVF in my Savinelli Champagne bulldog.
I opened a 4 yo tin of Dunhill Flake yesterday — a good plain Virginia. Puffing that now in my Tinsky billiard. Only the second day that I’ve smoked it.
I bought this pipe from the American Estates section of SmokingPipes. It had been smoked, but not very darned much. The lower part of the chamber wasn’t even charred. I think that the original owner had put in one fill, but only smoked half of it. That’s the good news — I got an essentially new pipe for significantly less than half the new price.
The bad news is that that one fill was a Lakeland that really colored the pipe. After four fills on the first day, and swabbing its draft with Everclear, the Lakeland coloration is much diminished today. Thank goodness!

This is a pipe from Neverbend. It smokes nice for a bent :pipe:
Good deal!
You may have been smoking too fast too. If you smoke too fast you can end up with a wet heel because the pipe doesn't have enough time to absorb and dissipate the moisture. If you're outside in the cold you get more condensation too. Either way, just shake that drop out the stem the minute you feel a gurgle. (Or use a pipe cleaner if you're indoors) keeps the heel drier and keeps the nasty stuff out of your mouth :pipe:
Well sort of. Remember, you sip on a pipe. You don't puff on it like a cigar. Proper cadence is varing from light sips to a little heavier ones, and also varying frequency to keep the pipe burning but close to going out... and of course you need to throw tamping into the mix too. I haven't figured it out completely either. I've never smoked a bowl to the bottom with just 1 match. I have gotten my match use down from what it was when I started out though, and about half the time I can manage to burn the bowl all the way down without a wad of wet tobacco at the bottom. However, that will not happen when smoking outside in the cold or when smoking a new pipe without any cake in the heel. Not for me anyway.
