Puffing Hamborger Veermaster from a just-opened tin. This is the first tin in a long time that I can extract separate flakes. In most HV tins they’re welded into a solid block — I have to gouge some out with my thumbnail. But, in fact, the gouged-out tobacco is about as easy to deal with as separate flakes.

Puffing F&T Cut Virginia Plug in my Kirsten Mariner.

A music critic, when asked which of Brahms’ symphonies was his favorite, replied, “the one I heard last”.

That might partially explain why I’m thinking that CVP is the tastiest Virginia I’ve ever smoked.

Earlier today I opened a tin of Fribourg & Treyer Special Brown Flake, nearly 3 yo. Now enjoying my second fill. This mild Virginia is said to be flavored with rum. It certainly has a savory topping, but I’d’ve never guessed rum, if I hadn’t read of it.

Like every F&T flake offering that I know of, there are two neat rectangular stacks with no buckling or overlap (unlike DF). And the flakes separate easily (unlike Hamborger Veermaster). Despite the easy separation, it’s difficult to extract an intact flake — these are the most fragile flakes that I know of.

I’m certainly enjoying this stuff — I like savory!

Smoking a bowl of Davidoff Royalty in a Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman. Drinking diet Mountain Dew and feeling good after a productive work week and a hot shower.

Smoking a bowl of a legacy OTC blend called Tuxedo in a Dr. Grabow Grand Duke billiard. I just opened the box last weekend and had to rehydrate it during the week. It has aged well and tastes like some very mellow Prince Albert.
