Just finished:
2014 Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake in a 1940s Barling's Make Ye Olde Wood #1376 smooth taper billiard.
Just starting:
2014 Gawith Hoggarth Broken Scotch Flake in a WWII era Barling's Make Ye Olde Wood EXEXEL #251 smooth saddle billiard.
Barling 251 is my favorite shape and I call them The Machine. This is the best of the three that I have but I haven't smoked it in over ten years since I noticed a tiny hairline crack on the top of the bowl. The crack hasn't gotten any worse so it's time to use it. Feels wonderful in the mouth. This all started when
@Branzig
shamed me into a review of GH Mixture #12 (forthcoming) and I wanted to use a wider spectrum of pipes for the task. Thanks Brandon.

Jim,
This #420 Charatan is a bit of a badass billiard. How does it smoke?

Burning up some homemade flake (VA/Burley/Cavendish, peach topping) in an adorable little mini meer I just picked up.
Pictured next to a full-size meer for comparison porpoises.

Great! I have always smoked VaPers in it, and I noticed long ago that they seemed a little smoother and sweeter in this pipe. About two years ago, I decided this would be a Louisiana Red or Virginia Spice pipe, depending on which was open at the time. The only regret is that the bowl is wide enough to drop most coin cuts in without bending or folding them, so it's perfect for that. I believe it was made in the 1960s, but I can't prove it. Paid $50 for it in 2001 and sure have gotten my money's worth.
