You should try a tin of Hearth & Home, Frenchy's Sunsabiches and also a tin of AJ's VaPer just for grins. At the very worst it'll give you even more of an appreciation for the higher end stuff. However, I like those two a lot.

Smoked a bowl of my first pressed blend concoction that I made almost exactly a year ago; it's a VaPer cake and it has mellowed out considerably. Smoked it in a "Personal Reserve" bent sandblast Dublin that I just got on Ebay. These pipes were made for Barry Levin who was a pioneer in estate pipe marketing in the late 80's and early 90's. He died unexpectedly in the mid 90's.
Any tobacco burns my tongue if I don't smoke it carefully - especially Va and VaPers. I usually stash them away for a year at least before I even try them. That seems to help a lot. I guess I wouldn't know fresh as I've never tried it that way. After a year or so it doesn't seem to bite any more than anything else.
One blend that bites me fresh is PS navy flake, I know that for sure. It also tastes... sharp -for lack of a better word. Only a year does wonders for that blend.
edit...
I may have misspoke. It might be the Louisiana Red I like. I'll need to go check my stash and see which one I have. Been on a rope and twist kick lately. Haven't been hitting the VaPers much at all.
Smoking some Dunhill Royal Yacht in a straight Dublin meerschaum pipe. It's been a long time since I smoked a meerschaum and I'm really enjoying this. It's so light, clenching it is a breeze.
Some lane 1Q in a Nording churchwarden last night
After filling my pipe with Hamborger Veermaster, I got a sizable crumb in my mouth on the pre-light test draw. It was quite tasty!
PS Lux Twist Flake in my Tally-Ho
Enjoying an unseasonable warm January p.m. with an MM General filled to the brim with John Cotton's Mixture, a smooth burley. I believe it was part of a burley cluster bomb that our friend @Haebar annhilated me with a couple years ago.
