Alternating fills of Solani ABF and Dunhill Flake in my venerable Kirsten Mariner with large bulldog bowl. And getting ready to head out to Kaiserhof German restaurant, then to my pistol range, to shoot my Beretta 87 Target .22LR. At Kaiserhof I'll also have tall Hacker-Pschorr. Interestingly, I usually shoot better after consuming a beer.
Having some aged Sam Gawith 1792 Flake in an old banded Dr. Grabow.
I found this in a Ziploc, stuffed into a Mason jar back in the corner of a cabinet. I had forgotten about it and it has probably been there for 2+ years.
I do not like 1792 Flake directly out of the tin as I find the tonquin bean flavoring to be too assertive. However after it has been out of the tin for a while, and the flavoring has had time to dissipate a bit, it is very nice.
A nice sweet smoke with just the slightest background flavor of the tonquin.
This makes me want to buy a couple of tins, open them, put them in a jar, and put them away for a year or so. It really is good after a while.
Sutliff Virginia Slices in a MM cob
Dunhill Nightcap in the gourd. This is such a tasty blend, especially if you haven't had it in a while. Now I'll be binging on it for a while. Good thing I've a healthy supply since there are claims of Dunhill tobac going off the market. FTR, that is nonsense IMO. They might disappear for a while if the current blender stops production but I have a hard time believing they won't be picked up by some other blender in the future. They're too popular to just fall by the wayside.
Having some McClelland Dark Star in my Ben Wade Freehand.
Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture in a banded Dr. Grabow on my lunch break.
SG Navy Flake in a Savinelli Champagne bulldog.
I totally get that (well, I don't get the dislike of tonquin... the stuff is delicious :D ) This is my SOP with many Gawith Hoggarth blends; such fine tobac but I can't stand that Rose Grannystink they sauce everything with. So I order in bulk and pack it away in mason jars with sealing disk inverted. After a couple years the stink has mostly faded away leaving very nice tobacco behind. (Gotta keep an eye on the moisture tho, I never let it get too dry). Then I flip the disk back over and seal it up proper like.
Smoking a bowl of 1792 right now on a trip across town.
