You could try that upside down swirl thing. it's a pretty foolproof way to load a pipe. There's a link to the video around here somewhere.

Curse those leaky tins. Seems every time you open one there's less tobacco inside than there was the last time you opened it...

Yeah, I'll figure out a method that works. I was still struggling with it before I took a break but I now have the time and patience to figure it out. I have plenty of time.

    Well, work sucked today.

But this McClelland No. 24 matured Virginia and Knob Creek on the rocks did not.

Just finished off the last of my "Louisiana Perique." Probably won't get any more of it - not really my cup of tea. I like perique in a blend but I don't like to be smacked over the head with it

Now burning some "Soo Blend." It's a house blend from Austen's in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Austen's is an antique furniture store with a tobacco department in back. Hey, it's a pretty small town! Anyway, the blend is an aromatic, pretty sweet, a little heavy on the burley.
You oughta know not to stand by the window, somebody see you up there.

I just gave that a shot with something called Brian's Blend from Smokers Haven in Buffalo. It appears to be a mix of virginias and has been jarred since I bought it, which was 2+ years ago now. Trying it in a cob.

I hope the packing method works well for you.
The Smoker's Haven tobaccos are blended by JF Germain IIRC. They're ribbon cuts are a bit longer than most others, but should pack well with this method.

    Cheers.

I had the name slightly wrong. It's Smokers Haven of the Southtowns and I'm not so sure this place is associated with the other Smokers haven stores. I know it is not tied to the online store, it has it's own web page. The owner carves his own pipes and supposedly blends everything in house, but who really knows.

Either way the pipe seemed to stay lit a bit better and I seem to enjoy this better than the Carter Hall so far.

Alternating fills of DF and Capstan Medium (blue tin label) in my big Il Duca Rhodesian.

But some bad news… I was on SmokingPipes web site this evening, and noticed that 50g Dunhill Flake now comes in the round tins, rather than the little rectangular ones. I keep enough tobacco on hand that storage space is a big issue, and those round tins are far less space-efficient than the little rectangular ones. I might have to think about an alternative for DF. But I currently have enough on hand to last a few years.
