Hi Brandon,

I'm OK and it's not a problem (really) but for the first time in my life I dropped a pipe and broke it (tenon). I'm shaking like a leaf. Man, this was upsetting.

I'm just getting acquainted with Glengarry. It's very much like GH Bright CR Flake but with a melon top sauce. I think that both are considered to be Lakeland mixtures but they shouldn't be confused with Ennerdale, much lighter and barely present in CR. The melon scent pokes through in the smoke as an unnatural sweetness so I prefer the CR. Typical of GH, good leaf, expert processing, good tobacco with a clear intent in manufacturing.

I'm always surprised to hear mispronunciations in high rent commercials. An add for a TV show says that the star is "mischeevius" rather than mischievous Professional announcers seem to have a real difficulty with enunciation. Zales wants to sell you diamond "assessories" instead of accessories. A current car insurance commercial and baby diaper commercial get the juncture completely bollixed so that I, a native speaker of English, am somewhat confused about what they really intended. "Cute diapers" has an inflection that makes me wonder if the label is "Cute" diapers, ie, one of the many possible types of diapers they sell, or whether it's "cute diapers". (The sort of mistake one expects from a non native speaker of English. The sort of mistake spies make.) The insurance commercial leaves me wondering whether I save $400 by switching over from Hartford or whether the insurance is from Hartford via AARP, the sort of mistake that would have cost me 5 points on an in-class discussion question in high school English.

Must be the warm weather. I'm always grumpy when I come out of hibernation. Smoking yet more RY in the 4Dot, too lazy to reach for anything else.

Nothing worse than breaking a treasure. Better find one to replace it quickly!

I figured Glengarry was of a much lighter variety. Sounds like it could be a decent smoke. When it comes to lakeland snot, I am a fan of the stronger varieties. Smoking a lot Grasmere lately. I'd say it is in between Ennerdale and Kendal flake. A tasty and quality smoke indeed.

Bummer, Pete!

I remember Glengarry Flake having a pronounced honey flavoring. Not as strong as a lot of GH&Co flakes, but not bad. Definitely not the perfumed variety of Lakelands, though.

Oh, and Pete, I believe they call the old guy's problem "having the drip" in the UK, judging from a funny conversation on another forum. "Aye, the drrrip, laddy." Attachment 1470

You're correct about the Glengarry. I get the honey in the smoke more than the bag. I can taste 1792 for weeks but Glengarry's just a wisp in the next smoke.

I was an eleven year old kid with a couple of months under my belt, trying to make good working in a pipe shop, when someone dropped and broke a pipe and the boss went nuts. I made a promise that day to never drop and break a pipe. That promise would have been 50 years old in a few months and today I broke it. Frankly, I reacted like that eleven year old. I'm OK and I need to adjust to my hands.

Pete, quite an interesting story...and I'm sorry this happened.

However...and pardon my extremity for just a moment: Just shy of 50 years, what a great accomplishment! Sounds to me that you have something to be quite thankful for; that you made it this long without any dropped and broken pipes. Some folks don't even get to live 50 years. Chew on that... :pipe:

Now, me...I'd probably have cried like a baby...for hours! :eek:

Thanks for your kindness.

As this pipe (Barling Londoner Pot) was heading for the floor I saw that scene from 50 years ago with clarity. I just finished smoking the only other pipe that I ever broke (I've had to break pipes intentionally) and it's fixed, sublime and though I wasn't happy that it needed repair it meant nothing.

Odd how a promise that a child makes to themselves can affect the man so many years later. I'm good.
