Happy New Year to all! The temps on NYE ended up reaching the 40s so I had a very nice and not-planned pre-dinner bowl of Ennerdale. We then dug into dinner and I had a change of heart re: the evening; instead of taking a pipe to the club with the fellas I grabbed a 2005 Cohiba Siglo IV which ended up being one of the most enjoyable cigars of my life. I was home before the ball dropped to celebrate with my wife and daughter but as expected they were in bed and comatose by about 9:30PM, so at midnight I whispered "Happy New Year" to them both and then went on the porch with, fittingly, a small bowl of Ten to Midnight and a glass of the last dregs from the bottle of Hancock's President's Reserve we almost emptied at dinner.

Here's to the Bum BOTLs and SOTLs having a wonderful 2017!

Puffing Capstan Medium in my venerable Kirsten Mariner. 2+ years of age on the tobacco. The Kirsten was made in the late 40's or early 50's. Its aluminum stem is polished -- contemporary Kirstens have anodized stems.

So glad that my two classical music FM stations have finally quit playing Christmas music!

I only ask because the generous part of me would like to buy the pipe-smoking part of me a new pipe for Christmas. I'm pretty cool like that. And the humble part of me is just awesome.
That pipe is $69.99 its a German pipe.

I have a pouch of Half&Half that's been open for close to two years. It's still moist. Ethylene glycol, I think. And, by George, I just put a fill of it into my Kirsten! It's going down quite well. A nice change-up from my usual fare.

My uncle smoked Half&Half. I always thought that its aroma was wonderful.

My dad smoked Sir Walter Raleigh exclusively. At a certain period of my younger life I had the notion that one should stick to one tobacco that they liked; I chose Half & Half as my tobacco because it was easily obtainable, had good tobacco flavor, and packed a moderate N content. I still smoke it every now and then, but it is not the same as it was in the late 70's. Not saying that it's bad, just different. Another codger blend that I smoked occasionally back then was Granger.

To get back on topic, I'm enjoying a bowl of G&H Louisiana Perique Flake from @Tombstone in an an unmarked African meerschaum straight apple pipe. Love this stuff.

Going to attempt to smoke a bowl of Quiet Nights in the Bari Pearl. I took a dive off the ladder Saturday afternoon and must have hit everything three foot each side of the ladder. I have a hell of a black eye, bruised ribs, elbows and asses. I say asses because it has two cracks in it now. I can't get Photofockit to work anymore.......

I seen stars, then I seen a doctor this morning. Looks like some deep bruising and maybe a little cartilage tear. He gave me a dose of painkillers, muscle relaxers and steroids. It hurts like hell, but I just don't care anymore.......

The ol boy that has the 320 acres north of us smokes a pipe. He came by Friday with pipe in hand. We ended up doing a swap. He gave me a mix of Capt. Black 50/50 mix of Blue and Gold. It's not too bad.......
