Just finished a load of Samuel Gawith's Golden Glow in the Dunhill Canted Dublin that @Pugsley gifted me (Both pipe and tobacco)
A first sampling of this mixture and I must say YUMMY ! The tin says broken virginia flakes no toppings and no other types of
tobacco. Just a clean virginia smoke and well worth it. Thanks Warren for a real enjoyable eye opener !

How does the Golden Glow compare to Dunhill Flake, Matthew?

It is a bit more flavorful,the mouth feel isn't as thick but the taste is fuller,sweeter,and earthier.
I still like the DF, GG is just more of a treat, if that makes sense.

Puffing the first fill from a just-opened tin of Solani 656, Aged Burley Flake. There's a definite chocolate flavor component. Perhaps it's not just a coincidence that the tin label has a chocolate brown color.

Nasty, nasty, nasty smoke! I keep getting some awful, chemical taste, especially on the relights. No doubt it's from stain and whatever else the pipe is finished with dribbled down into the bowl and then covered up with that black artificial cake goop they use nowadays. I wish they wouldn't do that. My first thought was to take a reaming tool and scrape all that stuff off but I thought better of it and didn't... prolly should have. Give me a restored estate pipe any day! (Unless it was previously used for Ennerdale)

The ABF sure shows promise though. Doesn't bite AT ALL and burns well even a little wet. Has a nice, smooth flavor when I'm not being poisoned by the curing chemical compounds in the bowl.

Well the ABF got too polluted and I had to dump it out.

Now smoking some evil tasting St James flake in this new pipe. Still tasting pretty bad but the chemical stench seems to be waning.

I feel like I'm taking one for the team.
