Half way through this bowl of P&W Nut Brown Burley in a 1984 medium bend black grain etched Savinelli Non Pareil 9310 poker with a horn ferrule and a black vulcanite stem. Going to take a forum break over the weekend to take care of business. See you folks later.
Another bowl of Penzance. Man, this stuff is so good I feel guilty smoking it :)
H&H Victorian Stroll.
Nice light English.
narrowly avoided nic overdose with a bowl of picayune last night. gonna brave the remainder of it this morning.
Puffing Capstan Medium, the best durned tobacco that Mac Baren ever made. Sipping dark-roast arabica coffee.
Darn. Just spilled some ashes on my jeans. Shouldn't post while puffing a just-filled pipe. No matter – I always have my pocket knife handy and neatly scraped it all up.
What's the trick to smoking this blend? I've had a few bowls of it; starts out sweet but then turns to cigarettes and black pepper. I've never made it past 15 minutes before it got so nasty I had to dump it out. The reviews all say how wonderfully tasty and complex it is. Well I'm not getting that. But then I've not had much luck with shag cut blends in general.
I'm going to dry out some S.G. Chocolate flake for later. Trouble is, I can't remember if I usually rub this one out or fold and stuff... oh the hell with it, where's my jar of 1792...
For me it didn't start out sweet whenever I've had it-- always an intense, borderline painful pepper burn, with a bit of the heavy nauseating dark burley following it up. Moisturizing it probably helps a bit, and I talked to one guy who has aged some and says it cuts down on the "bite" (I assume meaning the insane pepper burn). Complex would not be a word I would use to describe it, but then again some of these guys who had a palate for heavy perique and dark burley can probably ascertain more things than I beyond it, I guess.
I just got a pound of it for posterity, since it was like 17 bucks with coupons. It's useful when you need massive amounts of nicotine. in my case, I am such a light smoker that I don't use it for cravings, but for medicinal purposes. Tobacco prevents/arrests development of canker sores in my mouth, which was a revelation when I made the connection since I suffered with them for years quite severely.
Very interesting! I just googled:
"canker sores" smoking
And see that other folks report the same. Thanks for posting. I learn something every day.
Smoking my first bowl of a Daughters & Ryan blend tonight, Ryback Gold. It says it is pipe tobacco but it makes excellent cigarettes, as my visiting friend said after rolling a couple and smoking them. I'm smoking it in my medium-sized Hendon billiard and it is satisfying, but not complex in the least. Tastes like cigarette tobacco, but surprisingly good in a pipe.
