Jumpin’ Railcars and Collectin' Cans
Decided to allow myself to open one new tin, narrowed it down to 7 candidates but couldn't choose one, so it's back to the open tins. Dunhill Royal Yacht in a no name straight stem Algerian briar smooth billiard. The smoke is great, the pipe not so much. It has a slightly oval shaped mouthpiece, making it almost impossible to clench. Need to either do some file work on it or throw it in the "do not revisit" box.

Now smoking 1980s Ogden’s St. Bruno Flake in a 2003 medium bent Ural meer with a lined and etched egg shaped bowl with a silver band and a pearl brown acrylic stem. I sure am lucky to have this aged version.

Jumpin’ Railcars and Collectin' Cans
Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture in a W.O. Larsen Select Handmade bulldog I picked up a few years back at Edward's Pipe and Tobacco in Los Altos, Ca. I remember at the time thinking that's really more than I should be spending on a pipe, but it turned out to be such a terrific smoker I've never regretted the purchase.

Okay, I caved and popped a new tin. In fact I did something I never, ever do. I popped a fresh off the truck tin. Normally I won't smoke anything until it has at least a year of age on it, but was so anxious to try this, Russ Ouellette's Acadian VaPer It's one of those one shot, when it's gone it's gone blends. A bit pricey at $20 per tin, but after reading the description I had to try it. I'll leave the reviews and descriptive terms to those with a more developed palate than mine, but will say this is the most unusual blend I've ever smoked. It's Perique and yellow Virginia processed in the same method as Perique, so I was expecting peppery spice but what I got was more like red wine, or even mead. A thin ribbon cut, needs no drying, smokes well straight out of the tin. I'm really enjoying this one.

I determined it was out of my price range, but it does sound good.
