Pleasantly looking at my mason jars of tobacco.....

This evening I am having a bowl of Drew Estate Gatsby Luxury Flake in an extra large Rossi freehand. Today I got my order from "Pipes and Cigars" including the "Gatsby Flake". I ordered this tobacco to round out my order to qualify for free shipping. I have not ordered any tobacco for more than a year; in the last year I have been primarily interested in cigars. When I first started back with cigars and the pipe in 2009 and joined the old "Puff Forum" there was an old timer who knew that I had retired an had a limited money source for tobacco and he suggested that I should concentrate on tobacco instead of cigars for the first few years because he felt that the bans on cigarettes that there would be restrictions on tobacco worst than cigars. So I did just that and it was a pleasure looking at my jars of Stonehaven and Penzance that I had gotten when it was still possible to order; but I will admit that in my early years of smoking cigars from "Thompsons Cigars" was not a great time, but it did allow me to eventually understand and enjoy good quality cigars. So this evening it was especially enjoyable to view my many jars of tobacco that I love. In reference to this evening my Gatsby Flake seems to be enjoyable and I am topping off this smoke with an ice cold mug of "Guinness Draught" brew and life is well.

I just opened a 50g tin of Fribourg & Treyer Special Brown Flake – 17 months of age on it. The tin note is tart, even sour, but the smoke is delicious. The judiciously-applied topping is quite unusual: said to be rum-flavored. Could be, but I'd never have guessed rum. Like all of the F&T Virginia flakes that I've tried, the tobacco is excellent. I recommend SBF as a nice change-of-pace Virginia.

When I was a college student on a tight budget, I used to buy "Rum Crook" cigars at the drugstore. They were inexpensive, and I found them to be tasty – they definitely had rum flavor! In those days, most Midwestern drugstores carried an assortment of pipes, pipe tobacco, cigars, snuff, etc. Those days are gone.
