Ok it's time to give the pipe another try. I picked up a non-aro english type house blend from a local B&M. Getting better. Bowl stayed lit (most of the time). And had only minor tongue bite.

, but alas no sooner had I started to enjoy its citrusy, grassy goodness, than it got dark out and I was swarmed with little black flies which must have just hatched, and which must be immune to Deep Woods Off. I had to dump most of a good bowl and retreat.
Most folks know that San Diego has a mild climate. But in addition to that, there are few flies or mosquitos. Not much SMOG either – at least where my home is. Also, no tornadoes or hurricanes, and seldom even strong winds.
Smoking Solani ABF, and enjoying a nice cup of arabica coffee and a light cool breeze.
P. S. Can't remember the last time that I had a bug splat on my windshield.
