Boy, I would have lost a bet. I figured the $50 pipe would have sold before the $4000 one.
Happy as if I had good sense.

LOL! Now you can buy that new camper and tell the Mrs. you're paying for it with the money you saved

But seriously, maybe y'all can help me out with something... Present pipe aside, the pipes that actually sell for $Ks - what is it that makes them worth that much? I can tell the difference between at $30 Dr. G and a $150 pipe, but I don't think I could tell the difference b/t a $150 pipe and a multi-thousand dollar one.

Other things like vehicles, firearms, boats, guitars, adult beverages - I completely understand the price/value relationship. Not gettin it with the high-end pipes though.

Heck, I don't know what makes him think it's worth 4k. I do know that if I'm bored, I'd pay $50.00 to watch monkey's screw, so $35.00 wasn't that bad....

Well I think in the case of that particular pipe, it was probably a typo, i.e., the seller thought he was entering $40 for the starting price and hit a couple extra zeros, maybe thinking they were on the other side of the decimal point.

Y'all giving me a lot of laughs.

    Hi Bruce,

Short answer; better materials, better craftsmanship and aesthetics drive up the price of a pipe.

Quality briar that's been properly cured is expensive. Hand crafting is always preferred as the best method to make the best pipe out of a quality block of wood. Aesthetics become highly personal but any price above $300 (using an arbitrary high figure) is usually aesthetics based.

Bo Nordh pipes sell in the tens of thousands of dollars because they're traded as art, not smoking instruments. Some pipes sell as collectibles and can retain or appreciate in value even if smoked.

This seller just put a $4,000 tag on a $50 pipe. David (@Droy1958) proved that and got a good value and story.

Does price guarantee a better smoking pipe? No, impossible to tell without smoking it (and results differ between smokers), but a technically well crafted pipe, made by hand (and there are reasons for this), that uses the best briar, is the best candidate to be a superior smoker.

    Regards,

    Pete

Nice to see your back, Hope all is well.
@droy1958 , you need to insure that pipe for around 8 grand (you know replacement cost )
