Don't listen to this guy!
A gentleman was getting rid of his cellar. I had never tried these, so I bought them off him.
Happy as if I had good sense.

I was slumming for values and got nipped at the wire on several pipes, only buying this one for $16.85 ($10.50 + $5.35 ship) but regret being the under bidder on a 1930s KBB Paragon billiard that looked the part (and I would have smoked it) that went for $20.52 (total).
I believe that this pipe is a Charatan handmade 2nd because of the flat bottom of the tobacco chamber (made by a lathe), wall thickness, shape and grain. Very Charatan in shape as well. I have a fuzzy memory that Herman Lane told me that his retail store was called Tobacco Lane and that dovetails perfectly although the pipe doesn't look 60 years old and I'd want confirmation on the name to make that claim.

@Ropey
, This is a classic Bull Cap (smaller pipe).

Hi Mark,
Good to see ya.
It's not a Matzhold and I bid on it accordingly but I liked the work, very meer in it's smooth lines and that's hard to do in briar.
I like to have a plan for my pipe purchases but I don't with this one. Its big and I've got some ideas but no plan.
The Tobacco Lane arrived and it's a handmade Charatan 2nd but some ninny extruded the tenon (slightly) so that it's a loose fit and I don't mess with tenons.
Bought this 100gr tin of Murrays Erinmore Mixture ($12.00 shipped). Contents are dry so it'll need a year or more in the hopper.
Made in Northern Ireland (Murrays) but 100gr (instead of 4oz) so it would appear to be a later original but I'm not sure of the year.
