Just grabbed another pipe I didn't need on Ebay this morning. Don't know much about the maker except that he had a tobacco and pipe shop in Chicago and retired around 1942. The reviews that I've found by googling all seem to be positive.

Saw this at the Raleigh (TAPS) Pipe Show Saturday and could not help myself. I'm a sucker for a bulldog and this old timer reeally caught my eye. Based on the the type of stinger, two-digit shape number, Flame Grain nomenclature and round/inlaid logo I estimate product from 1938-1939. After my father-in-law it's the oldest thing in the house.
And the July Dog Fry is coming up soon - you gotta have (another?) bulldog, right? :D

thanks for the kind words. I just smoked a bowl number one withl some kind of hazelnut aromatic and the pipe smokes fine as frog's hair. I don't like talking about prices but I will tell you the Raleigh show was well attended and everybody seemed busy there. The Richmond show closed its doors this year and I think a small amount of traffic came from Virginia just to attend.
also be aware that the first annual pipe show in New Orleans Louisiana will be the first week in October this year. The show will include an optional tour of a perique processing operation with transportation lunch and beverages included for a modest fee. I would really like to do that but doubt I can make it down there. If you're near NOLA, I sure recommend this especially if you smoke a pipe!
