    "the pipe"

Curious as to your experiences and opinions of "the pipe". These are pipes that were made with pyrolytic carbon bowl liners. They were available in the late sixties and throughout the seventies; my dad got one for Christmas one year. I think he may have smoked it one time and never smoked it again (he liked briars). I got one in a lot of pipes that I got on Ebay and thought I would give it a try. After cleaning it up, I filled it with H&H Daybreak and fired it up. I packed the bowl loosely as I read you are supposed to do. It was not a bad smoke and I didn't burn my mouth with it.

I've got one, and I have no problems with how it smokes. I like that it doesn't ghost, and I often use it to try new tobaccos.
My main complaint in that the bit feels like lower quality plastic.

Have you ever had one that has developed a cake? Whoever had this before me let it build up a little cake and the literature states that you are not supposed to let it buildup. Just wondering how I should clean the bowl without damaging the bowl.

No cake for me on this one. I wipe it out after each bowl. It stays nice and clean with minimal effort.
Try stuffing a cotton ball in there, soaking with alcohol, and scraping it out with something like a plastic knife.
