    Scores of Ropps on ebay at $1.50 - up. Cherry smokes fine, thicker/non-ornate bowls survive the ravages of the wood's moisture absorbing character.

    Killing time in the truck waiting on my nephew to get to the golf course. The peckerwood is always late. At least I had something to occupy my time.
    I smoked his ass too. He was bragging like crazy because he'd shot his lowest round ever, a 77 the day before. We played 9 holes and I beat him by 5 strokes.

    A friend sent me an old meer-lined Kaywoodie, kinda dirty annd entirely uninspiring. After clean up I learned two things:

    1. it smokes as well as my 1964 Dunhill shell billiard; and
    2. the old Flame Grain looks pretty handsome.

    eBay bender? One bid in years got me a bargain pair of Tanganyika Meerschaum Co. Kiko black block pipes. Here's the dog and, yes, it smokes like a champ - rock solid and gurgle free. Never a big fan of screw-in tenons but this pipe and the brother billiard have no smoking warts. I'm a new fan of the old Kikos.

    Congrats on some nice looking pipes.
    Dan, is black meerschaum naturally black, stained, painted...?

    My take on african meerschaum is:

    1. less pourous than turkish limiting coloration from smoking;
    2. not naturally white but more ivory to tan; and
    3. a tendency to have color and texture variations or streaks in a natural state.

    I speculate the select stuff made premium natural pipes, most or all of which were highly rusticated; variegated clay was dyed or covered in handstitched leather boots.
