The Official 2015 Kentucky Derby "Lose to Win" Contest

    The Rules

1.The buy in is 1 tin or 2oz of premium bulk (ie, no pouches, Lane, or Sutliff for the sake of offending those who avoid said blends)
2.The goal is to have your horse finish behind everyone else's. Since the field will exceed the number of participants, you just need to worry about losing to your fellow pipers.
3.Pick order will be randomly assigned after the sign-ups close (4-26)
4.Picks themselves will be made between 4-27 and 5-1, the race is on 5-2.
5.You pick your losing horse AND and a losing exacta and losing trifecta- these can include the same horses as other contestants, but your last place horse must be unique!
6.If anyone hits the exacta or trifecta, they will get a special prize from Pete and I.
7.If your losing horse scratches prior to derby day, you will be assigned another horse by random number generator so that you can still win the pot, your exacta and trifecta are, however, screwed.
8.Winner (or in this case, loser) takes all, and all players will be provided an address to ship to directly.

    Why not!?!
    I'm in!
I know nothing about horse racing, so my odds of picking a loser are as good as picking a winner!

I had to do some Googling.
This page explains some terms, such as exacta and trifecta.

    http://horseracing.about.com/od/help...aquickbets.htm

    For our purposes.
Exacta = Last, and next to last (in exact order)
Trifecta = Last three (in exact order)

    Follow-up question, after some research:
Are these exacta and trifecta boxes or just straight up?

I participated in something like this last year but with cigars and winning horses. Also our horses were randomly chose so I didn't have to blame myself for losing out. So, I'll try this variant.

For the sake of increasing the odds, AND avoiding the problems of not being able to have more than one person select the final horse, I suggest we do boxes of 3 for the exacta and the trifecta.

@NeverBend ? Opinions on this one?

Ther'ya go, that @BryGuySC gone 'n broke it again.

I think we should have the 'exotics' be boxes, meaning:
To win the trifecta box, have the last 3 horses in any order you win (all combinations count).
To win the exacta box, have the last 2 horses in any order.
Your exacta (quinella) is your picks for last and next to last. Trifecta is all three.

The last place finisher is straight up. All last place selections will be unique. If no one has the last place finisher then we look at your second pick and then third. If there's a tie, then the third selection (finishing closest to last) determines the winner.

Hope that's clear but ask if you have any questions.
