I've bought a few sets of the MM seconds - 10 random cobs w/ QC defects. At least one I've kept all 10 of, & as I recall, a couple that I split w/ a BOTL. Most of the time I can't even figure out what the defect was.
But yes, that's one thing the MMs are good for - giving to noobs, starter kits, etc. Unforch, I'm out of unsmoked ones - time to get another grab bag?
Looking at their site, I see that the prices is up a few bucks, but they're still dirt cheap.
BTW, has anyone tried their hardwood pipes? Opinions on them?

Bought two MM seven day sets on ebay as well at different times. My favorite ones are the custom ones made by Farmerje on ebay, particularly his bamboo shanked ones. I love the way cobs smoke; they can tame a goopy aromatic and don't gurgle.
So you must be the "over 20" vote I'll have to check out that e-bay seller.

Just counted 22 MM cobs. I think there should be more but no telling where they are sitting right now.

Had some hardwoods, never smoke any and think they may have been sent to either the troops or some noobs as starter pipes since I can't find them.

I have had one.
It was fine. Nothing special but it was light weight and smoked good enough. I left it out on the balcony and it got rained on. Then it got all moldy and I tossed it.
For the cheap price, I'd buy another.

I have one cob that came in an auction lot. Not sure what brand it is....

IMHO, it's best to go with the chunkier, thicker bowls, like the Maple Hardwood Great Dane or Diplomat. I had what they now call the Ozark Mountain Hardwood pipe and it got too hot to hold it by the bowl regularly, so I got rid of it.
