Who here makes his own impromptu blends?

Sometimes I take a pouch with pipe, lighter, tamper and tobacco to one of my girlfriends' houses and have a little smoke there. Usually I have some leftover tobacco in the bottom of the bag after my bowl(s). And sometimes I'll throw this detritus together into random "blends" which always seem to taste ok.

Anybody else do this? I don't see much from people talking about home-made mixes. And when I do it's usually some specific recipe. Rarely do I hear people talk about pipe tobacco jambalaya!

    Any tricks or hints?

I intentionally make "parfaits" all the time. Rather than mix the tobacco, I layer the blends in the bowl. For example, some cherry blend in the bottom, with a nice vanilla virginia blend on top.

I have been known to smoke a bowl of baccy salad from the remainders on my pipe plate.

I tried saving up my "scraps" in a jar to smoke, but to be honest, I thought the result tasted like crap. I also tried it with just Virginia scraps, and while that was smokeable, it was extremely bland. I guess I'm spoiled by the blenders.

Now that, I will have to try! With a big bowl one could put a little Early Morning at the top, followed by some 965, and some Nightcap at the end. A three-course meal of a smoke. Brilliant.
