    jaring/tins

So I dont understand why you cant just tightly close a tin lid. isnt it the same as tightl closing a mason jar lid? still air in each of them. My tin has dried out, you guys just tossing the stuff in a jar and closing it by hand calling it good? or actually boiling it like canning. never did that before. Is a small ziplock bag good enough? I got a sampler off or tmoran and still have a few ziplocks left to get through, is that good enough or buy some small jars and toss them in? Guessing ill have to wet a paper towel and toss it in a jar with my half tin of midnight ride to rehydrate it.

I couldn't find Mason jars so I got Balls! If its been opened and not used soon I put it in jars.

Mason jars seal much better than tins. This time of year, if I'm not going to finish it within a week, I will always jar it up. When it is more humid, it will last in the tin a couple weeks. Also, not all tins are created equal. The rectangular ones don't seem to seal very well. The circular pop tins sometimes seal ok. The best tins for resealing are the circular screw on type, or the Reiner paint cans also seem to seal well.

New jars are clean enough when new for old rotting leaves so there is no need for boiling the jars.

You can get some humidifying pucks cheap for pipe tobacco if you want to use bags or tins and not bother with jarring your tobacco.

he was refering to boiling it after puting the tobacco into it like you boil jared food to get the seal.

If you let your jars sit long enough, the "pop top" will actually collapse in, just as if you had boiled them. It is the moisture sucking the vacuum seal tight.

So in essence, jarring your tobacco is 10000000 times more safe than leaving it in a tin. Also, I have never open a mason jar that I put tobacco in to find it bone dry and ruined...I have opened a tin that I had forgotten that I opened and found it more dry than desert sand...jars for the win.

I have. Make sure there's no tobacco on the rim before tightening down!

These little squat half-pint Mason jars are good for the remainder of a tin.
