Hearth & Home Mid Town Series
I know a while back a couple of guys did a group buy on these suckers....
I was curious as to how they compare to the blends they are trying to emulate. To those of you who have smoked them, what are your thoughts and opinions? Close matches? Close enough? Worth buying?
If all the guys who did the group buy are still around on here, maybe a group review thread in the reviews section would be cool!

If you check my Sutliff Match Reviews thread, you'll see my reviews of them under the Match names, since, with the exception of Sugar Barrel, the Matches are the same as the Mid-Town series.

So the tins are just full of Sutliff bulks?
I assumed that they were blended by Russ.....hmmmm interesting.

Russ made suggestions and approved them from what I heard. He may have been more involved than that, but I can only tell you what I do know. In the case of Chatham Manor, I do know Russ gave a basic formula to Carl McAllister, who nailed the blend in two tries. In the case of the others, I believe Carl made the matches mostly on his own. I taste tested three of the Matches before they were released, though CM was not one of them.

Very interesting! Well I will check out your reviews and take it from there.
On the bright side, it is a lot cheaper to try out the Sutliff match bulks than committing to a full tub, so it is something I may have to check into!
Thanks Jim!

I haven't had the originals of the blends I got in that group buy. What I can tell you is that each of them are pretty good. Plus, you can get the MATCH of these in 1oz samples if you wanted to sample them.

I suggest you pick up what originals you can and do a taste test! At least for the Carter Hall and Prince Albert. You'd only be out about 6 bucks depending on where you live...
I was thinking of picking up the 1 oz matches now that I know Sutliff makes them. Way easier than committing to buying a tub of something I have never tried before!

You'd think I'd be able to pick up the originals around here but, alas, it's not that easy. Almost no one sells anything but Capn black and Half and Half and Borkum Riff. It's seriously a tobacco wasteland. Plus, a pouch of Cap'n is ~$10 here. However, if I am in a position to pick up at least Prince Albert and Carter Hall I'll grab some. Maybe the next time I'm in South Bend, IN.

I feel ya there...trust me I do.
Well if you ever get the chance to hit them up I highly suggest it, until then you can sleep better knowing that the match blends are probably higher quality tobacco anyways
