If you're in doubt, send it to me. I'll smoke it for you and let you know if it was a good deal or not

Tony, I've decided to make this my dedicated Virginia pipe and have been debating what to smoke in it first. I figure it will be ready to go by Wednesday or so and I think that Orlik Golden Sliced you turned me on to will be the first to feel the flame in it.

I have a dedicated Virginia pipe (Savinelli Bruna 209) too. It pretty much only sees OGS or FVF.
I got my father in law smoking pipes again after he took a many year hiatus. I've slowly baited him back into this evil TAD/PAD hobby over the last couple of cold months. Yesterday he tried OGS for the first time and asked where I got it (local or internet). I walked over to my pipe cabinet, pulled some stuff and handed him a tin of OGS, a brand new MM Legend, a pipe tool, a package of pipe cleaners and a couple books of matches. Now he can enjoy a pipe at his house too. Next up... get him to join this forum. Moral of the story... OGS is a great tobacco.
OGS is a great choice to start your dedicated Virginia pipe because it burns easier than many of the other flake Virginias. I assume you're doing a full reconditioning and reaming the cake back to nothing. If that's the case stick with OGS for a few smokes or something that you know burns easily. If you do go for FVF in that pipe... dry it well. FVF is very wet and is even more of a delicious PITA in a brand new pipe. My $0.02

Yeah, I gave it the salt/alcohol treatment for several hours and reamed it out pretty good so I'll be re-forming the cake.
I figure a few bowls of OGS will do the trick nicely as well.
I'll have a couple more tins delivered in a few days. I don't see me ever getting tired of it.

You probably already know this but if you do not have Everclear around pipe sweetener is a must. I had been using 80 proof rum and I thought it was working fine. Well the pipe sweetener found stuff a lot of nastyness in some of the estates I had that I thought were clean. So much for that. I now use pipe sweetener. Also does the Pete have a silver band? Nickle and you have a $50 to $70 pipe depending on where you are getting it or the "deal" you are getting. Total score for $20. Makes me think I need to hit some of the flea markets around here. If that is a Silver band you got a $100-$150 pipe.

It is the nickle band. Even so, I've got less than half it's worth in it. I'll take that every day of the week.
It is a great smoking pipe. I'm still not sure what I think of the P-lip though.
