    Cigarrety

Is there a specific type of tobacco that gives off the Cigarrety taste/aroma? I've smoked a few blends that had a bit too much of it and I really didn't enjoy it. Can't pick out what part of the blend is giving it off though.....

I believe that typically cigarettes are going to be Virginia, Burley, and Turkish leaf...and paper pulp...and 2000 additional chemicals

    maybe @Bruck would know?

To the original question, yes, VA, burley, and oriental are the usual cigarette components. These are also prominent in many pipe tobaccos. I like to add a little burley to the hispanic leaves in my cigar fillers to give the flavor profile a little "cigaretty" edge.

Wow I would have never guessed that those in particular were the contributors. They certainly dont smell as such in the bag.

How the tobacco is processed for pipe blends differs for the most part from how they are prepared for cigarettes. Casings, toppings, pressing into flake and other factors can change the flavor and in some instances the pH of the tobacco. Sometimes though blenders will use uncased burley or turkish, or shag-cut straight Virginia in a pipe mixture, and these will sometimes lend a cigarette note. Often burley and turkish are the offenders, but even a VA forward blend can get really acrid in a way that offends the nose.

Hmm. "Cigaretty" is what I want to avoid. My wife hates that smell.

I know at least some cigs have perique. I don't know about cigs today, but "back in my day" you could definitely taste the oriental in Camel straights.
