I think the flavor contribution of the wrapper is more about construction of the cigar than concentration of flavor in the leaf. I've rolled cigars with different innards and same wrappers, and the flavor is quite different. I even rolled one "inside out" once - added wrapper to the filler and took two filler leaves to use at binder and wrapper. Tasted noticeably different from one rolled the usual way.

But - we'll see how this works. The point isn't as much to start smoking a pipe as it is to use and enjoy the scraps left from rolling cigars. I don't plan to start buying more tobaccos just so I can use the pipe. If this doesn't work, the pipe will be a decoration in my office.
