This in spades! I've been a runner for a number of years now (through ultra distances) and I've noticed a direct correlation between my hydration and my susceptibility to tongue bite (and in my case, bite on the roof of my mouth). If I spend all weekend logging miles and sucking down too much coffee to stay awake and study, I'll bite myself hard with the most gentle blend on Monday morning.

I usually have a big water bottle with me. I've learned the need for water when smoking anything is huge. Sometimes I rinse and spit too, especially if I get an ember or something in an unfiltered pipe.

Haha same here. Most of my on and off smoking during the year is for the purpose of preparing for hunting camp.
Burnout happens. You need to know your limits. Except during deer camp
