Briars

was just looking at the show us your cellar post and got me thinking. You guys have a lot of briars, how do you remember what type of tobacco you used them for, or does it just not matter what you put in it? I only have 2 and looking to a few few more in the coming year. I have a terrible memory and sure ill forget. I write with a sharpie on the bottom of my cobs to help fight my stupidity and wont do that on a nice pipe!

I do not keep pipes for certain tobaccos....never found it to make a difference if you clean the pipe after smokin...if I did certain pipes for certain tobaccos I would not have enough house for the pipes an I would look like jimmy

I'm just now starting to dedicate pipes for certain blends. I don't for each tobacco mind you, just blend type.

I've got one nice briar for English and two for VA and Vaper blends.

Obviously 3 is not enough when you smoke nearly every day, but I also have several cobs to fill in the gaps.

I still consider myself a newbie in the pipe world so take my input as such but I tend to smoke which ever tobacco I am wanting in whichever pipe is next in the rotation, a good cleaning with a pipe cleaner and I'm good to go. I have started noticing that a couple of my favorites taste better in this one or that one, but with only 4 pipes it's pretty easy to keep that straight.

That's a great question and I was wondering about it just last night. I lit up a bowl of an aromatic in a pipe that I had been smoking Kendal Kentucky and Tambolaka in; the taste was tainted from the previous tobaccos. I am going to keep my pipes in certain areas of my pipe rack to remember which tobaccos they are dedicated to.

IT's easy for me, because I only have one pipe for aros (hardly ever smoke em). A few for lat blends (a quick sniff will confirm if any doubt), and the rest I smoke Burleys, VAs, VaPers, etc. in because I don't notice much cross over. I have around 15 pipes and don't have trouble keeping track.

I have around ten briars and 3 cobs an 2 meers. When and if I get around to a deep cleaning I'll dedicate pipes to certain blends such as english,aro,and vapers.When I do, I have 3 pipe racks to seperate them to keep them straight.But for now I just do a quick clean and smoke.

I get a lot of ghosting from about any type of blend except VAs and burley. I also note that some blends taste better with differing pipe shapes, for instance wider, squatter bowls for Lat blends. I also burn all kinds of blends - even aros. So lessee....

I've swung from one extreme to the other with this, and surprisingly decided I appreciate the one extreme more so than settling in the middle When I got started I smoked everything in everything, then I went through a stage of dedicating everything to categories like: aro, English, cherry, burley, Virginia, and certain special blends. I have since returned to the "everything in everything" model and it is suiting me just fine.

No sir, you got it the wrong way. You tainted a wonderfully tasting /smelling pipe by smoking that nasty ARO in it.
