I used 1094 a few times, but found old files an leaf springs do better in the heat treatin..I use oil baths for temperin an water for the finish..you usin stones an paper for sharpin or the good ol file for personal gratification..

I'm not refined either LOL, my teacher had a shop full of top line tools and still did almost everything with a hammer and file. It's the way I was taught. I do one blade every year with only hand tools (except for a drill press) to reinforce technique. I'll post a pic of the gladius when I get it presentable LOL right now it's not much to look at.
5 hours and a couple of bowls later in the shop cobs here we are. 1 gallon of elbow grease and 10 sheets of sandpaper the blade has a clean 800 grit finish.
Feel free to comment on my pipes or whatever. I know my stuff ain't fancy but it's what I like

Got the fighter delivered with 20 minutes to spare lol 8 1/2" blade, claro walnut handle with blued steel guard.
Going to redo the sheath in black, had to have "pants" for delivery.

I don't take a lot of pictures of my work. Most of my knives are commissioned pieces from about 5 customers. They for whatever reason prefer I do not share pictures. Since they buy 80% of my work... I've got a folder prototype I'm going to start working on soon. I'll do a work in progress in the non-pipe or cigar area.
